Media using Dems not FOR Kerry spin to legitimize close polls.
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 08:35 AM by blm
I've witnessed a new trend in the reporting on the campaign. The talking head says that Bush has firmer support because his voters really like him, whereas Kerry's voters are mostly just against Bush and really aren't voting FOR Kerry.

The impression they are trying to leave the viewer is that few people are voting FOR Kerry because they WANT him.

I think they are using sites like this one where some still say they are holding their nose, or voting for the lesser of two evils, or ABB to exaggerate it into a bigger story that works against Kerry.

I notice they use it to explain why they say the polls are so close. The meme for them is that Bush is loved and Kerry merely tolerated.

1. What difference will that make in the actual voting? That is just
grasping at straws. Even if people vote AGAINST BUSH they will still vote for Kerry.

5. By pushing the idea that it IS a very tight election and using this as the
reason why, it will be easier for them to steal it.

The public is being told it's closer than it is and they are using dislike for Kerry by Democrats as the reason why it's so close.

Bush can only steal it if the public thinks it's a close race.

2. Its the psychology behind it that hurts.....
especially when Media portraits all Americans as dumb and followers of any trend.

3. You're right
although just like the primaries, it's playing out differently on the ground and in local press, where the enthusiasm for Kerry is unquestionable.

4. Its the votes, stupid
Some people have yet to realize that many in the party are just not "there" when it comes to Kerry being the answer to what the problem is in this country.

Problem ONE; BUSH and BFEE

Problem TWO:
Entrenched Washington insiders ignoring the needs of the people.

Just take the votes. Don't hope for something that will never be.

race. No way is it that close, but, if the public believes it is then it will be easier for Bush to steal it.

Noone is asking for any chips to be removed from any shoulder, just don't help thugs STEAL another election.

6. What we need are pro Kerry talking points to include in
letters, faxes, phone calls and emails to BigMedia.

BLM - during the primaries you always articulated well Kerry's BCCI investigations. Do you have that information close to hand. It might be usefull if we ( as in DU ) could take that information do a bit of cross polination. Kerry's role as a prosecutor of corruption ( and a prosecutor who went against the wishes of his own party's vested interests ) would be a good place to start. It may provide a usefull narrative when discussing the current administrations endemic corruption.

10. The soundbite on that is one that noone can refute.
Kerry investigated and exposed more government corruption in BCCI and IranContra than any lawmaker in modern history. He faced down the entire DC powerstructure, the entire GOP and even most Dem powerbrokers while they used the FBI and their media whores to hound and harass Kerry. Most of Washington ostracized Kerry for years while he was labeled a "conspiracy theory nut" as per Dick Cheney.

He pushed through. Historians note that the greatest crimes against the Constitution by any US administration were committed in IranContra.
