An OBAMA WIN hinges on the YOUTH VOTE - Poll for those 18-25

Of course, Barack has the enthusiasm, the crowds, and the online donations he needs ~ but we're finding in the real world that all this doesn't necessarily add up to filling out voter reg cards and absentee ballot forms, and getting them to the Board of Elections.

I know DU voters are more involved than most, but please indulge me. If you are 18-25 years old, which answer honestly describes your voter reg status today??

2. Not fair at all. I'm 24 and people my age are donating to Obama.

The cool thing right now is to buy items from his website's shop. Yes I have a Nintendo Wii but I also have my Master's & work a full time job. We young people are just as informed as every older person.

7. Donating is more convenient because it can be completed online...

Being informed isn't the issue. People are having trouble with voter reg and absentee ballots because the process involves paper forms, stamps and mailing, or a walk to the Board of Elections ~ as well as deadlines.

...completed online, but I think in most states online forms still have to be printed out and sent in. Since the youngest voters rarely use snail mail, even getting stamps is an extra chore!

3. 25 is a pretty harsh age-cutoff. I thought youth vote usually extends to 30.

I've been registered in this state for 2 years. Unfortunately the Harold Ford Jr. campaign didn't turn mine and about 100 other registrations in on time in 2006 so I didn't get to vote in that election. Oh well, it was their loss anyway since pretty much all of those were guaranteed Dem voters.

19. It's probably a good sign that so many are planning to vote in their hometowns...

They won't need absentee ballots and are already familiar with polling places.

Got a call this evening from a twenty-something involved in GOTV for this age-group ~ he says the campaign is training fellows right now to make sure young voters get what they need, including putting teams in place on campuses across the country as schools start. GREAT NEWS!!!
