LOL of the Day: Woman featured in new John McCain ad wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt!
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 11:25 AM by Kristi1696
I was just watching CNN when a new McCain ad I hadn't seen before came on. So I watched it.

And...something at the end of the video caught my attention.

It is an African American woman shaking hands with Mr. McCain and, what was that I just saw? The DVR confirmed it, why it's that beautiful Obama symbol prominently displayed on her chest. I recognized the shirt as one that street vendors often sell at Obama events. It looks like they've covered up the part of the shirt that is a picture of Barack with his arms folded and the "Change We Can Believe In", but not the symbol.

Oopsies!

Check it out for yourself.

From McCain's own website. (so you know this isn't a youtube hoax or something)

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Multimedia/

The name of the ad is "Accountable". Freeze it at the 0:25 mark.

Notice also that the picture of McCain and this woman is what you click on to begin the video. Except in that pic, the Obama symbol appears to have disappeared!

I love the smell of Republican gaffes in the morning!

P.S. If anyone can figure out how to get a screen shot of that, it would be greatly appreciated!

ETA: Check out the stink-eye the guy behind her is giving her for acknowledging McCain. If the McCain campaign was really trying to woo African American Obama voters, perhaps they should have edited that guy out!

Edited #2: Looks like they've used this before (though I never saw that ad). Here's the screencap.

Why use this again? Couldn't they just find another African American supporter? And seriously, check out the guy's face behind her!

17. Yup, that's an edit... they must have needed a smiling black woman REAL badly
Must have cost them a couple hundred to add that in, maybe over a thousand. And I'm not even convinced she was shaking McCain's hand at all.

18. Smiling black woman, with glowering black man in the background.
And they've used this in at least two ads. Apparently, it's the most enthusiasm they've been able to get from African American folks.

5. It actually looks like they composited the white bag in the video to cover up her shirt
But then I think to myself, does McCain's video crew even know what compositing is? They're probably too busy hand cranking the camera.

24. That's no white bag
That's a bag of Cindy's Vicodin Cookies that McCain is trying to offer that woman.

14. Thanks, that's beautiful!
This was apparently used in an older ad that Politico picked up, so I linked that in the OP.

They used it AGAIN! After the mistake had already been picked up!

12. Gawd, that is the boringest (yes, I typed that and mean it) video I have
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 11:20 AM by merh
ever watched, curiosity made me sit throught it. I was thinking something exciting, something involving, something entertaining had to be in a video like that, a video he linked on his campaign website - something ...

Nada, nothing, dullsville, boring -- I lost minutes of life that I will never get back for nothing and I never saw the t-shirt.

16. What, you're not into "portable and affordable" healthcare?
Whatever that is.

I agree that the ad is completely boring. It appears that he's going for the "I give up" target audience.

20. Good Lord, as it turns out, this ad is almost a month old! Why are they still showing it?
It looks like it caused an internet furor about a month ago (when I was out of the country and unfortunately missed the hilarity).

But I hadn't seen it in PA until today. Why the hell didn't they fix it?

Wow. That campaign really sucks.

21. Er, how can you tell it is an Obama t-shirt?
All I can tell is that it looks sort of like the upper-left corner of a waving American flag. Can someone post a full pic of what Obama image they think this is?

And.

They're commonly sold outside rallies, which is why I immediately recognized it. Although I remember
*whew* It took some work to find that!

23. Likely not an "official" t-shirt, either. But I've seen it somewhere,
I recognized it right away.

Anyone who's been in politics for a while knows that if there's money to be made, someone will make it even if nary a dime goes to the candidate (how many places right now sell both Mccain and Obama shirts--check out e-bay and CafePress!)?
