RW to publish anti-Obama book

Regnery to publish anti-Obama book

I have news of the first anti-Obama book to be published this August -- the same month "Unfit for Command" was released in 2004:

The same publisher that distributed the 2004 best-seller that took aim at John Kerry’s Vietnam service is planning a summer release of what’s scheduled to be the first critical book on Barack Obama.

Conservative journalist David Freddoso’s “The Case Against Barack Obama” will offer “a comprehensive, factual look at Obama,” according to Regnery Publishing President and Publisher Marjory Ross.

But the book’s subtitle makes clear its perspective: “The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate.”

Ross contends that the mainstream media has offered insufficient scrutiny of Obama and likens the goal of Freddoso’s book to that of “Unfit for Command,” the scathing assessment of Kerry’s war record that rocketed to number one on the New York Times best-seller list.

By highlighting negative aspects of Obama’s record and background, Ross says, Freddoso may compel others to offer more critical coverage of the Democratic nominee.

“I think it’s critically important that the country gets a clear and honest view of who is running and what they stand for—warts and all,” Ross says. “With ‘Unfit for Command,’ like ‘The Case against Barack Obama,’ we believe the media has whitewashed the candidate.”

But unlike the Kerry book, which was co-authored by a fellow Swift Boat veteran and focused exclusively on the Massachusetts senator’s actions in Vietnam and immediately after, “The Case Against Barack Obama” aspires to be a full-length political biography.

Last week, when the MSM all jumped on Obama for opting out of public financing, they tried to cast doubt on his logic by claiming there would probably be no swiftboating:

Will There Even Be Any Scary Right-Wing Groups Swift-Boating Obama?

Yeah, who believes the RW are just going to let Obama coast to a win?

3. It will be in August.
Obama made the right decision. Last week NYC Mayor Bloomberg denounced a whisper campaign against Obama in the Jewish community.

It appears the Swift Liars are going to use some of the same tactics they did in 2004 and others that will enable them to try to cover their tracks.

4. Here's the problem with that logic.
In 2004, more than 121 million people voted. Kerry got 8 million more votes than Gore, but Bush somehow got 11.5 million more votes than he did in 2000.

That's nearly 20 million more voters added in 2004.

How many more people will tune in for the first time this year? How many of them will get their news solely from the MSM? Think about the impact the MSM distortion had during the primary.

There is a possibility that McCain will turn off some in the RW, but who knows?

Take nothing for granted.

10. One problem with your analysis.
That's nearly 20 million more VOTES - not necessarily VOTERS.

As with '04, the real swing votes reside within the computers.

When will his book be published? I certainly hope there are copies of it ready to go with all the details of his whole career including links and references laid out for everyone to see.

8. Regnery, et al manipulate the market; the books are NEVER as popular as they
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 10:42 AM by blondeatlast
appear to be.

I've posted this several times, I finally had the sense to bookmark it:

Here's how it works. Crown/Regnery/Nelson etc. manufacture the demand for their books and it's vitally important you realize how it is done. Let me try to explain...

Precious, precious few nonfiction books have print runs in excess of even 100,000. Most of these RW books have INITIAL print runs of 1 million or more, though--and the publisher KNOWS that they will sell--it's guaranteed.

How is that possible? It's a bit complicated, stay with me. It also explains how these titles reach Number 1 the very week they are released.

As soon as the titles are announced, the market gears up and pre orders are made in mass quantities--but traditional retailers (B&N, Border's, etc) aren't buying in those mass quantities. They buy enough stock to cover a modest demand only.

But distributors (who drive the bestseller lists; bestseller lists are NOT derived from retail sales, but by distributor sales) will buy in massive quantities knowing full well they will sell out and possible need to backorder. So who's buying these pre-pubs in mass quantities?

The RNC, the Heritage Foundation, the College Republicans, etc--that's who. They buy in enough quantity that they can qualify as a retailer but THEY NEVER SELL A SINGLE BOOK.

They give them away by the handful. Donate to the RNC? Get the new Coulter book. Attend a Bill O'Reilly speaking engagement? Get his latest. Here, have another dozen for your friends who don't attend.

There's a reason that the NYT (the bible of the bestseller lists, the only one that retailers know really matters) puts a star by these books--they know that the market for them is artificially generated--and now the retailers have caught up.

These books "sell" indeed. but the retailers sell few of them.

Edit: Libraries end up getting dozens of copies that haven't been read, too. Most big libraries HATE to get them, they can't put them on their shelves since they already have enough and they can't give them away; they sit on their resale shelvves and ROT.

11. I posted this in the other forum....
I dreamed that there was already a TV movie being shown in late night reruns! Part of the dream was that I wanted to catch it for the sake of oppositional research, but missed it.
Before I went to bed, I was reading Dreams From My Father, and started noticing that there might be a person or two in there with an axe to grind. Then I had this idea that a limited number of people should aquire the book and pass it around for rhw Fight The Smears Campaign.
Seems I think I caught on to or read about the above stated failure somewhere.

I think we'll battle this out fine, so long as it is a target of the fight the smears campaign.

I think that if we stick to the plan they may be surprised at what hit them in November. But, we must never get overconfident anywhere.
This is exactly the kind thing that has a sort of "ratio effect" that we have to make sure to keep on our side as best as possible.

12. Sounds like
some people have a whole lot of disposable income to finance such losing investments. It must cost quite a bit to publish, print and distribute these "books". If no one really buys them then the Heritage Foundation, RNC and connservative book of the month clubs must lose quite a bit. But Regnery is getting its investment recouped from the bulk buys.

Sonds like quite a pyramid scheme. Regnery must be thrilled to have another money maker. If the RNC, Heritage and other dumb conservative groups are losing money, I guess that's one good thing that come out of it.

17. Dean and the DNC are only too aware of this
Republicans fear the prospect of a Democratic Attorney General more than
they fear a black, female, atheist, gay, Marxist teacher in every classroom
in the country. They will not shrink from every dirty trick they can come up
with, and they will have unlimited money to spend on their little projects.

It's coming, and we can face it head on, or we can bury our heads in the sand
and wait for it to bite us in the ass as it passes through. That didn't work
out too well the last time, so I propose a different tactic this time.

19. Anyone that would call his wife something like that in public no less derserves
no respect and I do promote that very thing, it so disgusted me that I actually can't help raising my voice in anger when someone mentions that would vote for that creep...sometimes people just don't care about the issues sad as it is, such a small thing that might appear to be but it does stop people cold when you tell them there is proof...who could excuse such behavior? No one with any self respect at all.
