Michelle Malkin, the unfortunate and overmatched author of a self-loathing book that attempts to justify our World War II internment and robbery of Americans of Japanese heritage, became the harbinger of the next mucky smell of low tide. She raised the story— heretofore consigned largely to Robert Novak and everybody to his right— in that delightful, Teflon way of modern politics: ‘I’m not saying that John Kerry shot himself. But in the Swift Boat Veterans’ book, they ask whether or not his wounds were self-inflicted.’

If Ms. Malkin isn’t seen on television, or moving on her own power, in the next few days, it’s understandable. My colleague Mr. Matthews forced her to hang herself out to dry ten or eleven times (never prouder of you, Chris). He may have directed the momentum, but her wounds were ultimately, uh, self-inflicted.

One of my jobs on 'Hardball' is to cut through to the truth. Tonight on 'Hardball,' one of our guests pushed the idea that John Kerry had won his Purple Heart by deliberately shooting himself. The charge was without merit and baseless, as our guest under close questioning herself admitted.

I think that these liars are really pissing him off, partially due to the fact that Tweet's brother was in the Navy. For a POS like Malkin to suggest that Kerry had "self-inflicted wounds" was, as Tweety said on the spot, irresponsible.

3. Racism, coming from a racial minority is very interesting -

and hard to fathom. Back in the '60s, I was a college student and I rented an apartment in Los Angeles from a Japanese couple. The man told me his sad story about being sent to an internment camp during WWII. I felt very bad for him. Later, a friend who was a Negro (as African Americans were called at the time) visited me. As soon as he left, the old man knocked on my door and told me that he didn't want any "colored boys" in my apartment. I told him I would have anyone I wanted over and he could not stop me. I still almost can't believe people like that don't learn by their own experience. Maybe Michelle needs to spend some time in Utah in a wire enclosure without adequate facilities or medical care and without knowing if she will ever get out. Think she would get it then?

7. I saw Cris vs Malken live, on the 7 pm "Hardball."

Then I retired to my newly-scored Monte Cristo #5s and a big glass of port (on the screen porch of the mountain cabin). I puffed and sipped and day-dreamed with two loving dogs at my feet for nearly three hours.

A few minutes ago I came back in to re-fill my cup and switched on the TV. Voila! There was Cris (or is it Chris?) on the re-run with Christine Malken. As I poured I watched closely. I think he kicked her off the set. I said that before, but I am convinced of it now. She did not come back with Willie Brown after the break.

Anyway, as a Vietnam Vet and a former Awards & Decorations officer in Vietnam, I am horrified by her disingenuous innuendo. Who the hell is she, anyway?

11. Olberman was great last night

At the end of his part 5 story, commenting on the idea that Kerry had "staged" his the action that lead to his bronze star, ended with "nice of the Viet Cong to help out with that shrapnel in his leg."

This guy is a weird excuse for a news reader, but he is one of the few independent and unconstrained voices on cable news.

13. The MM 'Hardball' flap reminds me of Charlton Heston's BFC interview

by Michael Moore. Like Heston, Malkin is enfeebled--she speaks in an affectless zombie-like mental-case monotone, and Heston reeks of senility. Like Michael Moore, Chris Mathews goes into overdrive when a nutball says something completely outrageous in a weak voice. Remember the TV-commercial 'Fishing Lure' that was said to mimic the movement of dying fish, driving trout and bass into feeding frenzy? Well Michaeil Moore is a trout, Chris Mathews is a bass, and Heston and Malkin are feeding-frenzy bait.

IMO many of those 'deeply offended' by Mathews' interview--beyond the usual screw-loose right-wingers feigning outrage--are speaking from misplaced chivalry. IMO Mathews acted incredibly responsibly, refusing to allow his show to be used to escalate outrageous SwiftSmears one more notch without careful examination. What Malkin said about a "self-inflicted" wound plumbed new depths to which even Corsi, Perry, and company had not yet sunk.

Malkin's history before the show. Maybe he would have passed on even booking such a disgusting, certifiable whackjob.

On the other hand, Tweet's had many, many RW whackjobs on his show in the past. He probably viewed Malkin the way he viewed his vote for bush in 2000, ie: how bad can it be? Well, he found out the hardball, er, hard way just how bad the newest wave of Scaife-funded whackos can be.

now. She is supposed to be yakking for her book and all the callers and Brian are talking about is her appearance on "Hardball". A typical no sympathy, no empathy repug spokesmodel. She fails to see that in a different world, on a different day, she might have been part of a round-up or the prejudice that she agrees with.
