Swift boaters Motivations?

What would make these characters come out and promote such dreck. Are they neocon true believers, Republican sheepy shills for the cause, demonstrating a twisted form of what they believe to be Patriotism, or are they doing it for money or fame? What the hell is wrong with these guys?

I can't put my finger on what is driving them---any ideas?

Follow the money. The Swiftboat book will make a lot of money so this kind of promotion only helps its sales. Money is the root of all evil and in this case these guy got evil up the waazoo.

about Kerry's antiwar stance after Nam........the basis for countless movies about the battles and the pointlessness of the war including the atrocities committed

3. Simple revenge.

They want to get back at Kerry for coming out against the war and for saying things about what happened over there that events like My Lai attest to.

6. They're guys who have been twisted up with hate for 35 years

but most especially since Kerry's testimony before Congress brought out that their service in Vietnam had been wasted actions based on lies by a corrupt government. Men who really wanted to believe they were doing something to contain the red menace would tend to resent this and nurse a grudge. I can understand this part of where they're coming from, even if I really can't see sharing it.

They'd probably have stuck to snarling at the TV in the VFW hall if somebody in the Bush team hadn't set them up with Bob Perry, their $200,000 sugar daddy, and Regenery, possibly the worst publisher in the country if you're looking for historical accuracy.

So you've got revenge and profit, and I think that's enough motivation for anyone, especially a GOP true believer.
