In 2004 the state of Ohio was swarming with people registering voters, even coming in from other states.

So that is not what is blowing me away.

The plan is to do outreach to beauty and barber shops. It's almost like somebody read my posts on DU from 2004!

The 3 Bs

Bus stops

Barber & Beauty Shops

Basketball Courts

BTW any GOP member of the house who has double digit's of African Americans in their district are considered vulerable.

The leader with 25% is Steve Chabot.

3. The thing is African American businesses are very open to hanging political flyers that Democrats
create. In the window.

In Ohio we have to educate voters about their rights. There are wide misperceptions regarding felon franchisement. In Ohio they are not barred from voting unless they are in jail in Nov. Many people who have a felony conviction in their past don't vote. in 2004 the Texas Strike Force were overheard calling African Americans on election day threatening them with arrest if they voted.

marginalized groups.

I don't see how we can overcome a favorite son presidential candidacy, but I'm hoping Obama's coattails will change some local races.

I truly believe it will, too.

6. This is the kind of post I patiently waited through the primaries for; I'm finding
helpful stuff daily. Your one post has me drafting my poster now that will go up in beauty and barber shops across our county (along with bags of voter registration forms). I just thought of something else; how many people don't get to vote because they don't have any transportation? So many elderly want to vote but can't get there on their own. We already plan on driving to the polls, but to reach more people I'm going to add a line on my poster that if anyone knows of any dems who need a ride to the polls to add their name to a log I will leave with the shop owner.

No more close elections.

9. I remember vividly your stories of making Ohio Beautiful after the '04 election
I had just found DU and the madness that was Ohio had this place going crazy (I spent the majority of my time in -what was it?- Election reform?) You had me cracking up with your posters. I was nervous that California was going to be the next Ohio and feel so happy to see a Secretary of State with some brains and doing it right in California, and Ohio isn't looking too shabby either.

Thanks for all that you've done and do.

10. We have a GREAT secretary of state in Ohio.
She's already got Cuyahoga County voting on paper, and she's planning to have paper ballots on reserve at polling places where machines are used, just in case the machines break down/there aren't enough to handle the volume.

Sure is a change from the days of Ken "I Love Disenfranchising My Fellow African Americans" Blackwell.

11. Hey Berry! How are things in KOland? I'm so relieved with what's happening in Ohio,
after Nov. 04 it felt like we were not going to be able to dig out from the evil of Bush and his friends, luckily the activists in (and out of) Ohio worked so hard to get the word out about what really happened. I'm mentally getting better every day that we get closer to January 20.

It was so popular everyone wanted a copy and they wouldn't even fold it to put it in their pocket. It hung on the wall or in the window of many African Americvan businesses. Official Kerry people were like "oh my goodness"
