It's Going To Be Obama
Edited on Thu Jun-19-08 05:58 PM by NanceGreggs
MEMO to the GOP:

Barack Hussein Obama will be the next President of the United States.

No matter how many of your on-the-payroll talking-heads spew utter nonsense about him, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how many outrageous smears you come up, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how many scurrilous lies your minions tell, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how much effort your operatives put into swiftboating him, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how many times you raise the specter of Reverend Wright, or flag-pins, or Chicago-style politics, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how often you attempt to insult his wife, his friends, or his associates, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how vociferously your pundits challenge his abilities and his competence, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter what tricks you plan to put into action between now and November, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how many baseless rumors you try to pass off as the truth, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter who you dredge up to speak against him, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter what lengths you go to, or what depths you sink to in order to turn people against him, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter where you go to dig up dirt, or how far your party tries to fling it, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how hard you to try to instill fear with suggestions of looming terrorism, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter who you cajole, threaten, or pay-off to besmirch his good name, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how often you publicly wring your hands and question his ability to lead a nation, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how passionately you proffer your arguments to the contrary, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter how shrill your voices get, or how incensed you become at the thought, it’s going to be Obama.

No matter what you do, say, fabricate, exaggerate, allude to, conjure up, pass along, shout, whisper, fantasize, publicize, propagate, proliferate, cause tears about, cause fears about, stomp your feet over, scream your fears over, pollute, dilute, spin, fold, staple or mutilate, the end result will be the same: it’s going to be Obama.

Barack Hussein Obama will be the next President of the United States.

That is all.

Try not to choke on the idea – but don’t feel obligated to try too hard.

29. Yeah... know whatcha mean...
You know what? Let 'em. I figure it's THEIR TURN. We've had to choke on eight - to about 15 or 16 YEARS of it. Farther back than that, if you consider the years before Clinton - from maybe reagan onward. Let them choke for a change. Maybe some hard time wandering in the wilderness will provoke some circumspection and soul-searching.

Then again, and I'm genuinely sorry to feel this way, I look at someone like laura ingraham. Just survived a bout with cancer. That is no small stuff. I know a woman on that journey now. HORRIBLE!!! EXTREMELY traumatic on all sorts of levels. A struggle, and a spiritual/psychic/psychological/financial/emotional/AND physical punch in the gut. You go through a lot of changes when you face something that life-altering. You'd think that kind of ordeal would have made our friend laura ingraham a better person. From her continued harsh snark and nastiness, coldness, judgmentalism, and lack of compassion, I'd say probably not. I hoped for something different from her. Might help her stay healthier.

I called it simply being confident. But I don't just want to win, I want to give McCain a humiliation beating. All Republicans should get a humiliation beating too. So let's not just win, let's WIN!!!

69. Ordinarily I would say the same thing
About overconfidence, I mean.

I'm still suffering from my beloved Patriots losing the Superbowl to the underdog. Lots of Pats fans were doing the Happy Dance all over the (virtual) bodies of Giants fans. That made me very nervous...like they were inadvertently calling down the wrath of the football gods who would punish their arrogance...and then..... :wow:

But see, fan confidence had nothing whatsoever to do with a team winning. If voting had won that game, the Pats would have won, I'm sure...which leads me to the topic of confidence in Obama's win in November.

We have control over what happens. Well, to an extent, anyway. People can vote...and vote...and vote. And that's where the confidence comes from...

I think that when people say Obama WILL WIN, it's coming from the knowledge that people are going to rise up do whatever they have to do to ensure that he wins.

Because our country's future depends on it.

:)

75. To win a game or an election you must not only show up, but fight to win.
In line with the football analogy, being here in Wisconsin I have seen the Packers when they were one of the top teams have the attitude for a game that they were so good that all they had to do was show up. The trouble is that they actually had to play the game and have as much hunger to win as their opponent. I think in this past football season the Giants had more desire to win than the Cowboys, the Packers, or the Patriots.

I think the Democrats can decisively beat McCain, but they will have to work hard to do it. That's one of the reasons I don't like the picking of Obama's cabinet before he even wins the election.

24. With all due respect, it most definitely will NOT be Obama if
everybody thinks this way. It's this kind of self-congratulatory complacency that makes front-runners careless. Has the lesson of Hillary Clinton been forgotten in less than two weeks?

I hope I'm wrong, but I fully expect the GOP to steal the 2008 election, and no one will do a goddamn thing about it. It's worked twice already, why the hell wouldn't they do it again? We've already amply demonstrated that they can rely on nobody going after them for it.

81. No complacency here. We have a lot of work to do.
But I've got to tell you, it will happen.

I liked Kerry and most definitely wanted him to win in '04, but even though he was ahead going into election day, I did not visualize him winning. It haunted me that I "saw" bush* taking another term, but yet that is what I "saw".

Where as I believe that we cannot become complacent nor lazy, I see Obama winning, I do not see a 'president McCain', but I do see President Obama.

It will happen.

Now everyone get to work! :)

Every last one of the pricks who have had their hands in our pockets for decades is absolutely shaking in their boots over 1.5 million people reaching into their pockets on a semi-regular basis in order to give.

But I don't think we should be too overconfident. Yes, things look good for us right now, but we all know how dirty the Republicans play. These people are not going to give up the White House easily, and they will do anything they can to make sure that Obama never steps inside the Oval Office.

We can certainly win this, but only if we fight hard for it. This is not going to be an easy battle, but it is a battle we must win.

58. Oh, it will be Obama and his coattails will be long
We will likely get that supermajority that the Democrats swear is the only thing holding them back from doing great things in Congress. What I worry about now is what if Obama becomes President and there is a Democratic majority in the House and Senate and nothing changes? I don't think I could quite handle it, really. It will be a macro version of what happened after all the work we put in around the 2006 elections and then nothing changed. I don't think I have much more disillusionment left in me, ya know?

59. Who Controls The Election Machines?
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 05:46 AM by emanymton
.

Your absolute certainty assumes that there be an open election. As J. Stalin is credited with saying, "Who counts the votes matters."

Put nothing beyond the people holding power in USA today. Mr Cheney plays a long game. He knows he can expect to have to answer for his actions once the new administration is sworn in on January 2009.

Zimbabwe's current president, Robert Mugabe faces the very same prospects of losing power through the voting process. Mr Mugabe's solution is to intimidate, arrest and torture/kill those who stand against him. Mr Cheney does have his own private army, Blackwater to turn to.

Let us hope that USA has an election. Should it be an open election, then "it’s going to be Obama" is valid.

BTW - Love your writing.

71. September: Bush nukes Iran. October: Martial Law. November: Elections cancelled.
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 11:07 AM by Seabiscuit
December: Blackwater mercenaries set loose on all political dissidents. Water boarding pales in significance to the torture meted out. Homes not just invaded, but torched.
January: Nation collectively salutes Herr W.

Anyone here seriously think it can't happen?

79. i seriously think it won't happen/
not necessarily that it can't but that it won't.

why be openly dictatorial when you can fool people, gradually convincing them you're doing these things to "protect" them, and then, after your decade is up, you retire to some place sunny and luxurious and continue to collect your pay.

propaganda and dogs and ponies are plenty effective, and the populace can be appeased/go back to sleep with an eventual economical improvement. no need to dictateify.

there will be an election. and enough people will vote obama that it can't be stolen this time.

I have no doubt the Republicans have more dirty work up their sleeve. They have cheated their way in the past 8 years and I fear history will repeat unless we have a overwelming turnout.

Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 06:28 AM by Political Heretic
Oh wait.

Yes, of course he's trying to get elected. Which is why he is going to speak out against immunity (as he has been doing), work to take it out, and if that doesn't work vote for it because its absolutely stupid not to on a bill that has more than enough votes to pass anyway and simply HAND the GOP their attack points in your vulnerable area (national security/foreign policy)gift wrapped with a note that says "please use this against me to paint me as naive, inexperienced, soft on terror, out of touch on security and weak from now until November! Love, Barack."

83. Great Post
Edited on Fri Jun-20-08 03:40 PM by Mark D.
But two things.

1) I hope we can eventually just call him "Barry" as his friends did and probably do. Any less fuel to the 'he's a muslim/terrorist' crowd of FAUX SNOOZE liars isn't helpful in this. Nothing wrong with his name for anyone who gets it. But the easily (mis)lead and the right wingers who want to tarnish him will use this and anything they can.

2) I do think he's likely to win. If everyone votes, and the voter turnout causes a wide enough victory to allow him to win DESPITE republican vote stealing tactics, that WILL happen since 8 years after the first major problems popped up, we have ever more polling places using electronic voting with no paper trail. And having one doesn't matter anyway, paper 'recounts' only happen when it's a close decision. If one side wins big enough, the electronic count wins. We should have two counts in every election, electronic THEN public paper counts by non-partisans closely watched.

But aside from that. Too much, 'we're going to win' celebration may lead to 'I don't have to vote, everyone else will vote for him'. Everyone needs to vote. Pessimism in this case would help get a higher turnout maybe. Especially given the above likelihood of right wing voter sabotage. We have to win big, or we may not win at all. That is the reality.

PS. That is if late October polls don't show an easy win for Obama, so Bush nukes Iran and uses an expected national uprising in protest as the 'emergency' he's qualified himself to use (and Congress allowed) to take over the guard from states, roll out Blackwater (after all the shooting practice they had in Iraq) and overrule Congress/Senate objection (as if the largely complicit Democrats would bother) and suspend the Constitution (which he can also do now) and elections too.

94. Thank you for your concern.
The man's name is Barack, and he has made it clear that this is the name he wishes to be addressed by, and known as.

Thanks for reminding us all that if we want him to actually win, we have to vote for him. I'm sure that hasn't occurred to anyone, and most people are planning to stay home in November.

Do you have a firm date as to exactly when Bush is going to declare martial law, suspend the Constitution and the elections? I only ask because I have been reminded that this is imminent, on a daily basis, for several years now. And I'm still waiting.

95. Times change...
'35% of Americans say they have watched online political videos–a figure that nearly triples the reading the Pew Internet Project got in the 2004 race.

10% say they have used social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace to gather information or become involved. This especially applies to younger voters: two-thirds of internet users under the age of 30 have a social networking profile, and half use social networking sites to get or share information about the campaigns.

6% of Americans have made political contributions online during the primaries, versus 2% during the entire 2004 campaign.

39% of have used the internet to access campaign materials; including videos of candidate debates, speeches, announcements, position papers and speech transcripts.'

99. All bets are off when the Republicans DONT NOMINATE MCCAIN
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 06:24 AM by Political Heretic
They can see the polls and indicators just like we can. They know McCains chances are DOA. Worse still, McCain doesn't seem to phsyically be handling the campaign schedule well...

Under pressure, he drops out for health reasons, and the nominate someone else who can then take the "new, fresh, attention-grabbing change" message and run with it.

(For the record, I think he'll still win, but I don't think its time to get over confident.)
