Democrat Mark Warner has widened his lead against Republican Jim Gilmore in the race for Virginia’s senate seat. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows Warner earning 60% of the vote while Gilmore attracts 33%.

Barack Obama continues to gain ground on John McCain in Virginia, for the first time edging ahead of his Republican opponent for the presidency in a state Democrats are increasingly hopeful of peeling away from the GOP.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Virginia voters finds Obama with a statistically insignificant one-percentage point lead over McCain, 45% to 44%. Five percent (5%) favor a third-party candidate, and 7% are undecided. Last month, with Hillary Clinton still in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, McCain led Obama 47% to 44%. 1. With Warner stumping for Obama in SW VA
I'd look for those numbers to rise a bit. Add that to high turnout in NoVa and the Beach, and VA could just edge into the Obama column. Very exciting early numbers!

3. The Va Dems have been working that territory for a long time now

and Warner is still very popular there.

I have said for a while that 3 days on Route 58 would do wonders here in Va in neighboring NC and it would play well in Ark Indiana etc.

2. Population growth in NoVA suburbs will help Obama. The liberals in NoVa
will ensure that he does well. I'm not sure about Va Beach or Norfolk. That's a large military (Navy) community. I dated a Naval officer who lived there once and sure enough, he was brainwashed by "John McCain is a Maverick War Hero" bullshit fed to him by the wingnuts and the media.
