Obama to Meet with Congressional Hispanic Caucus

Updated 1:17 p.m.
By Anne E. Kornbut

Sen. Barack Obama will begin a series of meetings with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus tonight, sitting down to talk about the progress of the campaign and solicit questions and advice, the Obama campaign said.

In recent The Washington Post-ABC News polls (May and June combined), Obama led McCain by a wide margin among Hispanics (71 to 21 percent). His lead was 62 percent to 28 percent for McCain in the latest Wall Street Journal-NBC poll and 62 to 29 percent in Gallup data.

According to the 2004 NEP exit poll, Kerry won Hispanics 53 to 44 percent -- but those figures remain controversial and some think Bush received closer to 40 percent of the Hispanic vote.

Obama returns to Washington late Tuesday after a two-day swing through Michigan.

3. The coattail effect of Obama's candidacy in AZ could send a mild shock to our local races.
He's pulling in impressive numbers here even though MCcain's our longtime Senator. If Latinos vote in large numbers (and they are expected to) maybe we can turn things around here.
