Hold on to your hats ... ARKANSAS McCain +9 (down 15, was +24)
Rasmussen's new Arkansas poll shows McCain losing nine points over the last month (was 57, now 48), and Obama gaining six points over the last month (was 33, now 39). Obama is now within single digits of McCain in Arkansas.

Rasmussen contributes the Obama surge to former Clinton supporters!

3. McCain will win Arkansas, and no matter what the margin, its winner take all
Good gains by Barack, but AR is not on the list.

10. Also the closer he gets to within striking distance
the more money McCain may feel the need to symphon off to those "red" states(i.e. defending 2004 bush states) and less on turning "blue" states, Couple that with what will likely be an Obama money advantage, and you could have Mccain straining just to play defense while obama will have relatively less competition in "blue states" ,and hopefully require refer resource allocation there, and can use the extra money to turn just a few(or more) of the many states that McCain will be trying to "hold". Just some possible scenario's, we'll see if they hold

22. McSame's already playing defense. He's campaigning as though he's 10 points ahead
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 11:18 AM by blondeatlast
because that's how he's always campaigned. In the past it's worked for him; but this race isn't him running as the incumbent senate Republican in a reddish state. He has a real opponent this time.

The good news is he'll have to pour money into some red states, it appears.

6. Very true, Carrieyazel ... but ...
This shows me that McCain is losing support in red states. It's becoming a trend, and Arkansas' poll helps us see that. Obama won't win Arkansas (?) but McCain may need to spend money there to make sure he wins.

:D

5. Very positive news
I'm inclined to think that Arkansas is still a McCain state, but the movement in the polls in this very pro-Clinton state reveals that Clinton supporters everywhere are cooling down and coming to support the ticket.

13. Could Bill and Hillary swing Arkasas for Obama?
Arkansas is one of the few red states that some serious campaigning by the Clintons could possibly lead to an upset.

33. Certainly worth Wes's campaigning there for Barack
And a visit from the candidate. A single digit red state, if this holds, is the right market. :)

obama is easily going to take the presidency with his and Dean's 50 state strategy. The country is ripe for something new.

20. Upcoming common theme
As the weeks turn to months during this campaign more and more red states will become purple states. By November the vast majority of the map will be blue. We have all seen this occur during the primaries with Barrack's ability to draw in new voters and to appeal to established swing voters.

24. Overly optimistic. The good news out of this is that the McSame camp has to put money
and volunteers into what should be a lock state for any RNC.

25. Great. We have to keep the pressure on
push the videos on McCain flip flopping, alliance with Bush and sounding incompetent.

Most Arkansas voters—56%--also believe that Obama is too inexperienced to be President. That’s well above the national average. Just 27% believe that McCain is too old, a figure right in line with the nation-at-large.

Sharing a skepticism with voters across the country, 70% of Arkansas voters say that the federal government has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interests. Only 10% disagree. Just 12% believe the government today represents the will of the people and just 46% say American elections are fair to voters. Eighty-two percent (82%) are confident their votes will be accurately counted in November and that the appropriate candidates will be declared victorious.

George W. Bush won 54% of the Arkansas vote four years ago. Today, however, just 31% of the state’s voters say he is doing a good or an excellent job. Most, 54% say the President is doing a poor job.

26. McCain being a maverick is a double-edged sword
He'll appeal to Indies and Moderate Republicans...and turn off the base which was already demoralized to begin with. His numbers going down in red states means he's losing a lot of his base support (which is never good news).

34. That McCain "poll" is simply a link to a page on his web site asking fo rmoney
It doesn't matter where you click on it, you are asked for money. No evidence of a tally.
