Who Is Elitist? - Here Is George Bush's $2,300 Bike
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 11:50 PM by Median Democrat
I know the RW has been having some fun with Barack Obama's pictures of him riding with his kid with a totally uncool, but totally suburban kid trailer. You know the right wing is right. A normal hardworking, blue collar American would ride a bike like George Bush, a Trek Fuel 98, which goes for the measly sum of $2,300.

Yup, typical right wing double standards.

1. I can't knock his bike...I got an expensive bike too...
of course, my car is worth about half of what my bike is worth, so that counts for something:)

2. Dude, You Have A Bike That Costs Two Large!
Cripes! Man, maybe I need to find a new line of work. Still, so long as you don't tell me that you gave up golf to express your solidarity with our troops, I guess we can still be in the same party. ;)

9. generally you can't lift a walmart bike shoulder high
with one hand unless you've got some decent biceps

That being said, I can't afford a $2300 bike. I would expect hardcore cyclists who'd put the equipment to good use to pay that kind of price. Well, them and W.

16. Brakes on Shrub's bike are worth more than $200.
And fixing any aspect of the piece o'crap from Walmart would cost you more than the bike.

to his armpits. The goofy socks and the mismatching colors don't help either.

I wear calf-length capris. THOSE are long shorts. Why the hell would any man want to wear mid-thigh shorts?

And gets road rash on his face:

And check out the rash on his hands. George, you really do need to learn how to fall.

19. Update - Bush Upgraded His Bike - Obama's Bike Is Only Off The Rack!
This story notes that Barack is clearly off of his game when it comes to getting an elite level bike. Can we really elect a President that rides a bike that most of us could potentially afford?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/06/09/2008-06-09_barack_obama_gets_poor_fashion_marks_aft.html

"There is even a full lineup of candidate bike-wear that Obama, consciously or not, has now joined - although at a decidedly off-the-rack level.

President Bush is known to own at least three souped-up mountain bikes, including a $5,000 Cannondale that he clips into for weekend rides. Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry always raised eyebrows when he'd donspandex shorts for a spin on his $6,000 carbon-fiber road racer.

Obama's ride - which on Sunday included an attached rear bike that he used to tow one of his daughters - is a basic Trek that likely retails for $400 to $500, said Paul Steely White, executive director of Transportation Alternatives.

"This is clearly an everyman's bike," said White, "although it looks like he could use a little air in the rear tire and the seat could be raised a little bit."

22. He uses a trail-a-bike!
My daughter and I used to have one of those - we spent PLENTY of quality time together on that. I miss it terribly now that my daughter's too big for it...

24. not that bad for a quality bike
you have to pay for quality...i had a dormmate in grad school who was a hardcore serious biker (did like 50-mile rides, iirc), and his most expensive one was $3000-this was almost 10 years ago...
