When I think of Tim Russert, I think of him running around msnbc with that wipe-off board during the
2000 election.

RIP Tim!

I am very, very saddened by this news.

He's just part of my election night custom and he won't be there.

As it is, I'm going to alert the DU mods on it; you don't need to link from here (I didn't click, I don't care to).

15. that's an obsolete version of the page, and don't be a dick.
Before joining NBC News, Russert served as counselor in New York Governor Mario Cuomo's office in Albany in 1983 to 1984 and was chief of staff to Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan from 1977 to 1982. An avid fan of the American Football team the Buffalo Bills, Russert usually closed Sunday broadcasts during the football season with some type of pro-Bills comment. He had also ended his show by mentioning the successes of Boston College football, baseball, and hockey.

Career

Russert graduated from law school and went to work on New York Democrat Daniel Patrick Moynihan's 1976 Senatorial campaign. He later went to work on New York Democrat Mario Cuomo's 1982 gubernatorial campaign. In 1984 he was hired by NBC at their Washington Bureau. He became Washington Bureau Chief four years later. <4>

30. Wiki was fixed seconds later, the poster linked to a cached, vandalized version of the page
A Wiki link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Russert

A link to old versions of Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tim_Russert&diff=219147820

o i clicked on Tim Russerts name on wikipedia and look what I saw

The poster is playing dumb, since he navigated Wiki well enough to dredge up an explicit link to an obsolete page from the history. Since that version only appeared for seconds at most, it wouldn't surprise me if our poster wasn't the person who vandalized the page in the first place; I guess the DU powers that be could rule that out by comparing his ip address to 24.179.85.*.

39. if you understood how Wikipedia worked, you'd offer a more qualified defense
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 04:23 PM by foo_bar
You have no way of knowing if this guy was "trying to protect the memory of Mr. Russert", and all available evidence points to the contrary. At best you should admonish me to offer more benefit of the doubt without knowing all the facts, but "the guy was just trying to protect" is an example of jumping to a conclusion.

35. thanks for the "warning"
Glad you didn't warn people about the version that was there four revs earlier. It seemed like a sucky thing to repost in the immediate wake of the victim's demise, but I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt to your sincere belief that you were helping people by posting a link to one of many obsolete Tim Russert Wiki pages sliming a dead guy (note: you must have noticed the dozen revisions in between, since you copied a link that can only be found on Wiki's History section).

ok it was in bad taste without me elaborating more on my original post. I don't use Wikipedia much and have never seen it get hijacked "live" basically. I love Tim and wish more journalists would ask the hard questions like he did. Let me repeat I had no ill will intentions in the post; just letting people know the kind of sick stuff people would post. So no one should draw any conclusions; I'm sorry I didn't clarify in my original post; my intentions. While I got everyone talking; R. Kelly is innocent of all 14 counts; and they have that shit on tape. The USA is so insane, if u got money u can do whatever all the way up to killing someone.

You get an extra point on my respect-o-meter over the guy spinning it into a great act of respect (and a scoop! word to citizen journalists: Wiki getting vandalized is what's called a "dog bites man" story, finding completely accurate information on Wiki would be the more newsworthy event)
