1. No, he's not paid by the campaign. He helped vet Edwards for Kerry in 2004.
THe Wall Street Journal said there was nothing above the board about how Johnson got his mortgage loan.

2. Sorry..... won't float. Attacking a candidate on the associations of an association is
ridiculous.

Nobody could advise anybody in D.C. based on that standard.

Jim Johnson has an association with the head of Countrywide.

You can keep trying, 2rth2pwr, but you continue to fail.

Six degrees of separation is not a valid campaign tactic and won't work.

That's like attacking Hillary because someone who knows Mark Penn is a bad guy.

5. So asking a question about a news item that Obama addressed in a press conference is off limits?

we might seriously believe that you're just 'asking a question', but we know better.

10. "we" is those of us on DU who have been reading your tripe for months...

....you're working for the other side. It's abundantly clear.

Paid? probably not... you're not that good.

But every OP you type has been an attempt to damage our candidate. Now you're going to push the RW meme that because Jim Johnson knows a guy who was shady, that therefore Obama is shady because he is associated with a guy who has a questionable association.

It's guilt-by-association twice-removed... and even Charles Freaking Krauthammer thinks it is ridiculous. Read here:

17. OK - this is just semantical pickiness....but why
are we supposed to call Obama "OUR" candidate, rather than "the" candidate? Of course, to me it reeks of marketing seminars gone amok (or Fox Sports - where they run the same ads for every team, but subsitute "your" or "our" with the name of the local team), but where did the meme "our candidate" come from?

I NEVER heard this in reference to Kerry, or Gore for that matter either. Not only that, it surfaced long before the primaries were over. Where did it originate? Why are we supposed to say it?

20. "We" are the Democratic party... so Obama is now "Our" candidate....

If he's not YOUR candidate now, then you aren't a member of the Democratic party.

I'm just pointing out that this was not the language that was used when Kerry was the nominee.

9. You could look up some info and find out, no?
Then you could come here and actually provide that info to others, along with an explanation of why it bothers/pleases you, and ask for others opinions and try for an actual discussion.

Imagine that.

14. Here you go
Johnson has long been one of Washington's most prominent leaders, holding leadership positions in business, the arts, and politics.

Johnson began his career as a faculty member at Princeton University, later moving on to the United States Senate as a staff member and to the Dayton-Hudson Corporation (now Target Corp.) as director of public affairs. He was executive assistant to Vice President Walter Mondale during the entire Carter Administration (1977-1981). Later, he founded and headed Public Strategies, a private consulting firm, from 1981 to 1985 before leaving for Lehman Brothers.

From 1991 to 1998, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the quasi-public organization that guarantees mortgages for millions of American homeowners. Previously, he was vice chairman of Fannie Mae (1990-1991) and a managing director with Lehman Brothers (1985-1990).

As of 2006, he is a vice chairman of the private banking firm Perseus LLC, a position he has held since 2001. He is also a board member at Goldman Sachs, Gannett Company, Inc., a media holding group, KB Home, a home construction firm, Target Corporation, Temple-Inland, and UnitedHealth Group.

Johnson has also served as chairman of both the Kennedy Center for the Arts (1996-2004) and the Brookings Institution (1994-2003). He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Friends of Bilderberg, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Trilateral Commission.

On May 22, 2008, Democratic Party officials confidentially divulged that Obama had asked Johnson "to lead the process" for selecting Obama's running mate.<1> On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, Obama announced the formation of a three person committee to vet vice presidential candidates, including Johnson.
