WOW....Obama is OFF THE LEASH! He is ON FIRE!
Watching on CNN now. Obama is ON FIRE. Passion, righteous anger, attacking McCain and the Republicans like a political version of Mohammed Ali.

He has obviously held himself "in check" during the Democratic Primaries.

Fears that Obama would "Run to the Right" during the GE can be forgotten.
His campaign is solid Economic Justice/Populism.
Edwards would be proud.

"The corporations and The Rich will have to start paying their fair share." (minor paraphrase)
"Social Security WILL NOT BE PRIVATIZED!"

Just WOW!
(Another nail in the DLC coffin!)

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

10. Have you ever seen Police Dog unleashed?

I don't think Obama has ever been "on the hook" for anything.

I DO believe he was "reserved", "polite" and "careful" during the Democratic Primaries. If he had ever gone after Hillary like he went after the Republicans today.... he wouldn't be the nominee (you can imagine the backlash).

The "Leash", as a form of restraint, works for me.
I guess I could have said, "Obama has Unsheathed the Sword", or something like that.

29. That's been my impression.
Obama was very measured in his fight with Clinton, trying to avoid being overly critical or aggressive. I hope the new approach continues. (Hopefully, his campaign team is aware that Americans have tended to vote for a strong leader, even if the "strong" candidate is a total dumbass.)

6. You can't know how glad I am to hear that.
I ended up supporting him & voting for him in the WI Primary after watching my more favored candidates either drop out or not run at all. I was thinking that Obama was the better of two unexcitingly centrist candidates. More and more, though, I'm feeling that we made the right choice here. I can certainly find some specific policy issues where I disagree, but the general tenor, his overall way of approaching things, his basic frameworks, are seeming more and more attractive.

17. Obama was my 2nd to last choice.
Kucinich > Edwards > Obama.

My initial support of Obama was lukewarm, one step better than the DLC.

My opinion began to change the night he gave the historic response to the Wright Media affair.
He is calling on "the best" in America.

After watching him today, I'm beginning to feel some enthusiasm.

If he keeps this up, I may have to get one of those Obama avatars.

13. well, as for that "run to the right",....
traditionally, the general election campaign doesn't start until after the conventions, even if the nomination is sewn up. so this doesn't mean he won't later swing toward the middle.

that said, the circumstances this cycle are amazing, and he doesn't need to make subtle policy nods toward republicans or conservatives or even moderates in order to win over the independents and the rest of the political center. the fact of the matter is that there are SOOOOOOO many pissed off and fed up voters that he does well just to keep seeming presidential and being consistent in his message.

16. Saying Social Security will not be privatized is hardly running to the left.
Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 01:23 PM by Carrieyazel
The vast majority of the public oppose it. Even many Repukes oppose that whacked out theory (the 2005 fiasco), and its still a third rail issue that can't be touched. Obama isn't exactly taking any gambles here.

18. There is a wing of the Democratic Party that STILL supports privatization.
They keep repackaging it as "private retirement accounts" , or "saving Social Security" but those are just code words for giving this money to Wall Street.
That group is The DLC.

And for those who haven't noticed, we run the party, we work/volunteer in its campaigns.. at all levels. We are the parties candidates. We the People, blah blah blaaah.

To those who still support privatization, you are in the minority, congratulations.

20. I heard him on CNN.Live and MSNBC today - He was fantastic! GObama!!
I just sent this to the Obama campaign and said I wouldn't be able to send a contribution this month:

I only wish I could help out this month but I cannot. We are about to loose our home and today I heard Barack’s message on the economy and I appreciate everything he is trying to do so much! We will try to volunteer here and see if we can do anything more in the future. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and we live on his Military retirement and an $8 part-time job he has. I am 62 and he is 60 now. I have had 2 sons in Iraq 1 and 2 and have another son who developed progressive MS 4 years ago and we helped him out at that time and lost most of our savings doing it because we could get no help for him since he doesn’t have minor children or a wife. Now we have used up the rest of our savings trying to keep our home. My early retirement money is up this month and I will get nothing in July. In August I will get $657 a month SS and I have been trying for over 1 and ½ years to find a job down here in Florida. It is very hard here right now to keep a roof over one’s head! I have a Master’s Degree and excellent references and experience, and still can type 65 wpm, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference.

..................

And so it goes, like so many others who have the same story, in the Greatest Country in the World! May it truly be the Greatest Country again soon! But we all know it will be a monumental task for sure!

23. Obama has used DLC rhetoric recently
I am extremely enthusiastic about Obama becoming president, but I have my eyes open about him and you should too. He's no Paul Wellstone and those quotes are actually pretty boilerplate for dems these days.

Obama recently:

I, as much as Hillary Clinton, are building on the legacy of Bill Clinton. The things he did in the early 90's to help the Democratic Party shed some of its excesses, to recalibrate it in a direction that was pro-growth, to send a message that we weren't anti-business, to recognize that we've got to compete in the world economy, to balance the budget, those are all singular accomplishments of Bill Clinton. And understandably, he wants that legacy continued and understandably he thinks his wife would have been the best person to carry that forward. But my strong feeling is that moving forward I'm going to need Bill Clinton involved in this process. He still is a transcendent political figure in this country, and I want him involved and I'll be looking for his counsel and his advice.

28. I just saw Obama speaking today and am of the same opinion.
We're seeing a different, more aggressive approach now, against McCain. I think Obama *was* sexist in his campaign against Clinton, in that he wasn't as aggressive as he would have been against a male competitor -- wary of the backlash that would come if he was seen as being too harsh. (I'm placing more weight on the gender issue than intra-party concerns, but ymmv.)

Whatever the underlying strategy, he does seem to be turning up the heat.

31. That's why I so naively got into politics in 2000..
"Social Security WILL NOT BE PRIVATIZED!"

I love that quote by Paul Wellstone(lives on!)

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

Paul Wellstone said, People asked him why he didn't just leave the Democratic Party and he said he had missionary work to do inside the party:)
