3. The party is defintely coming together. . .
. . I know Elizabeth had her concerns about Obama on health care, if she is going to stump with him this is huge. Actually to me its bigger than Hillary. When you think about Hillary, as a former candidate and current Senator, has more of reason to work with Obama, where as Elizabeth has no such reason so her coming out with him is excellent news.

14. That's a step in the right direction.
However, let's hope we take the House and Senate in November as well as the White House. Congressman John Conyers has a fine health care bill HR676, extending an expanded and well funded Medicare for all, sitting in committee waiting for the House and Senate to pass it. All it then needs is our new Democratic President to pass it into law.

26. Thata's what I've been hoping for as well
Enough new Dems to sign on to HR 676 to place it on Obama's desk to sign.
I see this as a positive step in that direction.

18. John and Elizabeth...
I lost a very dear friend to breast cancer last year. A few months back I heard John on the radio when her health was an issue. I sat at the red light waiting to hear him, thinking 'yeah, it is sad for them, but they have so much money and insurance and for the others, for my friend, it is so much worse' ...they introduced John and the first thing out of his mouth was almost exactly what I had been thinking. Yes he even said 'we are lucky compared to others' when talking about his wife's cancer. He knew and talked about how hard it is for those without the great advantages, strongly and prior to any speaking about their own situation. I cried in the intesection. I really wanted to vote for him because of that.
I'm so glad she is on the job. She really knows, and is one of my favorite political people of my lifetime. Same for John.

22. Fantastic NEWS!!!
for America as it indicates Obama's willingness to deal with his own plan's deficiencies, and an embrace of the ideas of a real champion for reform.

However, you do understand that this news will probably piss off the griefer brigade who'll find some way to now throw Ms. Edwards under the bus for daring to work with the Senator from Chicago... :(

31. No, I thought that was incorrect. I think you're assuming EE's plan is HC's plan,
I figured she thought it was the best one available out of the Dem's running. I figured Elizabeth Edwards has her own plans and ideas on healthcare. Hence the reason Edwards was running. This was a big thing for Edwards and they had their own plan when they were running, so this weird idea that they had equal plans is a bit off.

34. whatever, HRC's plan and/or EE's plan
...Obama's statement assures that health care is a mandate and will get passed - and that's a very good thing.

30. Not to be a Debbie Downer
But the Reason Mrs. Edwards supported Clinton's HCplan is because it was manditory, with penalties for non participation.

So does this mean Obama's plan may move to the manditory or else plan?

32. I hope not. That's one of the reasons I was AGAINST Clinton's health care.
It's completely and utterly unfair. I think/hope he will have EE just look and work out the kinks excluding this whole change of option to mandatory (with penality). I really hated that aspec of her healthcare. This is coming from someone without Health Insurance and one who has several health conditions.

33. It doesn't matter whose plan we like
By the time a plan becomes "real" it will have been beaten "beyond all recognition" by Congress, its committees, the lobbies of pharmaceuticals, medical (& hospital), and insurance.

There are a bunch of hurdles to cross before we need to worry about "mandatory vs voluntary".

I'd like to see some progress, but I'm skeptical. I think too many in congress are in the medical/industrial pockets.

41. The only "mandatory" plan I can support is HR 676 ...
... or, depending on the details, something like John Edwards' plan to offer an up-to=100% subsidized federal insurance program like "super-Medicare."
