This country is different today- and yes, better.
Look, you may not like Obama; you may think he's an empty suit or a radical whatever or a corporate stooge, but whatever you think, the social landscape has irrefutably changed, the social contract has been rewritten.

It's a big deal. It can hardly be overstated.

No, I'm not saying racism will magically disappear. Of course it won't; we've seen that racism is still a force that needs to be confronted and fought against.

But I am saying that something fundamental has changed, that racial stereotypes have been exploded in a powerful and unprecedented way, that lines are being blurred and even erased, and that we are all the better for it. All of us.

Less than 50 years ago, Many AAs couldn't even vote.

And now, here we are.

I feel so... grateful.

1. It's consequence, not cause.
It's nice to feel validated and absolved, but let's not invest personal emotions with cosmic significance.

And, yes, I'm cranky. Pulse at 120 bpm and no sinus rhythm'll do that to you. (And how's that for an unresolved syllabic /m/ and syllabic /l/ sequence?)
