I swear, they might as well change the station to "SIRIUS Hillary"... It's like four hours of Obama hate with one hour of Thom Hartman separating the two shows. Good GOD...

1. I have sirius and never listen to that station
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 03:16 PM by Bleachers7
Because the lineup is terrible. Hopefully I'll get AAR when the merger goes through.

2. There's like 2-3 real "left" shows on there
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 03:19 PM by Araxen
1 hour of Stephanie Miller
2 hours of Ed Schultz
2(iirc) hours of Thomm Hartman

All on tape delay...

The rest is trash..

Sirius is a right wing service. They have two channels dedicated to the right. Fox News Talk and Patriot Channels. If it wasn't for Howard Stern I would drop Sirius and switch to XM. Hopefully the merge is denied.

6. ClearChannel is a major investor in XM
In addition to the 3 you listed Make It Plain is actually pretty good. You just have to stay away from Alex Bennet and Lynn Samuels as they are awful.

27. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Stop spreading that bullshit...
Clear channel is NOT an 'major investor' in XM, never more than 5% and they pulled most of that a couple years ago.

STOP SPREADING THIS BULLSHIT.

Which, from what I understand, is starting to become very conservative...

8. What do you think of Stephanie Miller?

I've seen her on Larry King a couple of times. She's great on TV. I thought about buying her subscription service. But I have never heard her show so I was unsure?

I really like Ed Schultz and have a subscription to his site. I'm thinking about getting a subscription to Randi Rhodes too. (I live in Indiana, right wing talk rules here!)

Any feedback on the Stephanie Miller show would be great. What time is she on XM? Is she worth an internet subscription?

It's like... a couple of hours of sarcastic sound effects and Stephanie Miller tsk'ing and chortling.

16. Ohh, but MARK THOMPSON (Matsimela Mapfumo) is excellent...
MAKE IT PLAIN, 4pm Central/5pm Eastern.

I think Mark Thompson and Mike Malloy are the two best talents on Sirius Left.

(Except when he has some weird tweaker as a guest... Like some woman a few months ago who was all wound up about the coming "water war")

Thom Hartmann too. When they took Stephanie off I was pissed and it took a while for me to warm up to Make It Plain, but I have, and really like listening to the show now.

I really do enjoy Alex Bennett and Lynn Samuels too, even if they (more Lynn really) despise Obama for existing. I can't help it... I've listened to Lynn since at least the late 80s back in New York. I just gotta love her anyway.

I totally know where the OP is coming from though because sometimes it's enough to drive you nuts. Even Bill Press started to annoy the crap out of me and I stopped listening to him.

4. I hear a bit of Mike Malloy
on the way to work and a bit of Bill Press on the way home. I avoid Lynn Samuels like the plague, her voice makes me cringe...it's like an effeminate Jerry Lewis impression, by the way of Brooklyn (then it's Big 80's or Hair Nation). If I'm out running errands, then I listen to Ed Schultz.

5. Sirius Left....

is so weak!

There is no Randi Rhodes. And you only get the first 2 hours of Ed Schultz. And that's tape delayed to 3pm.

The Lynn Samuels show is terrible. I don't even call it a political talk show. Its just a crazy old lady from New York ranting about how much the world "sucks!"

I can't stand it.

In my car I listen to "Brian and the Judge" on FOX radio from 9-12. Even though it's FOX, these guys are probably the only truly "fair and balanced" show the entire network produces. After that, there is nothing reasonable until Ed Schultz at 3pm! And that's only for two "freak-in" hours.

I'm thinking about switching to XM radio. They have Ed Schultz from 12-3. and then Randi Rhodes from 3-6. That's a good back to back combo. My favorite TV commentator Rachel Maddow has a radio show on XM radio in the evenings.

I don't know why Sirius can't beef up its progressive radio programming.

14. Lynn Samuels might be "Harriet"
Wouldn't surprise me... they sound about the same. Considering how they chop up Thom & Stephanie, the only REAL show they have worth listening to on Sirius is Mike Malloy.

Once my "free" Sirius subscription expired, I didn't even bother renewing it. Can't get a decent signal for more than an hour at a time anyway.

24. Her show is completely unlistenable
It's not the accent or her age. It's the content.

There's none. Just some insane ramblings for a couple hours and no tolerance for any opposing viewpoints. I thought Randi was bad, but Samuels takes the cake.

9. Well, their music stations can't be beat... WOW...
Sirius came in my car when I got it in 2005. I've been a subscriber ever since my six month trial ran out. I listen to the music stations all of the time, they are excellent! I've discovered a lot of new artists that I really enjoy by listening to stations that play what I want to hear.

If you are into electronic music, their live DJ sets on Thursdays through Sundays can't be beat. They are really, really excellent!

22. That's the only reason I stick with Sirius
Their music programming is leaps and bounds beyond XM it's not even funny. XM music has turned into commercial radio in the aspect that it plays only the "popular" stuff, even on the off-the-beaten path channels.

Sirius has an awesome mix of alternative rock and indy music, plus everything in between. You will rarely hear the same song twice in a week! (Probably not that far, but if factor in that you dont listen all the time, it's highly plausible) As for their progressive programming, it's decent outside of Samuels and Bennett. I've really started to enjoy Make it Plain with Mark Thompson. He's pretty balanced on the liberal side and his shows are very interesting, you'll learn something new every day about history and civil rights.

XM has baseball and that's the only thing I miss, to be quite honest.

21. Well yes - but as it is a private subscription service
it is not subject to FCC censorship, and the music comes without the jabbering adfest and top 40 mentality that has made broadcast radio unlistenable.

23. XM is starting to shift into Top 40 mode
My wife and I have had both, one in each car, and I dread listening to anything music related on XM. They've started falling into that trap where they focus on certain songs more than others to an extent that its very similar to broadcast radio.

I keep the Sirius unit in my vehicle!

12. Anybody listen to the Stephanie Miller Show since November?
You get 3 hours of Obama adulation and testimonials/phonecalls from the newly converted everyday interspersed with her and the "Voice Diety" ridiculing Sen. Clinton. I used to really like Stephanie Miller, too, but I grew tired of listening to her "sputterings" while putting forth Sen. Obama's agenda. (Stephanie should be on his payroll.)

Two wrongs don't make a right, but you're not the only group of supporters having to put up with the annoyance of listening to someone/some network rip on your favorite candidate either.

I just stopped listening to her week before last - now that the primaries are over, maybe it will be safe to tune in again.

20. Give Stephanie a break.
She might have been pro Obama, but her producer Chris was totally pro Hillary, probably right up until the RFK assassination thing. (Callers even referred to him as a "right wing tool")

Stephanie went to a Hillary fund-raiser, even met Hillary and invited her on the show, though Hillary never made it. I don't know what more you want from her. Total Hillary ass kissing, because Stephanie's a woman??

17. I canceled it when Air America left
I thought the equipment was of poor quality. Didn't holds-up very well. Antenna was real cheap and the final straw was when the receiver broke. That was right after the Air America thing. Their line-up was not very good even then.

Thom Hartmann rocks! I stream it every day off his home station, KPOJ.

31. Alex Bennet/Lynne Samuels are the worst talk show hosts ever.
Political points of view aside, these two are down right fucking boring. Alex basically masturbates to his own voice for a couple hours in the morning, and then that fucking crackpot Lynne Samuels takes over and yells and snorts for two hours in the afternoon. If you've never caught her show, you're missing out: she rants and raves for five to ten minutes on end about the most irrelevant shit ever. She thinks teh governmentz r planting microchips in flyz.

No shit - microchips. In flies. Mmmmhmmm.

But yeah, all they ever do is talk about how much they hate Barrack Obama. And then they complain about how we're not united. Oh, and everything is his fault. He's a cheater. And a bigot. And a pussy (their words). Go figure?

Ah, but at 5:00 pm EST Mark Thompson's Make It Plain hits the airwaves... This is a great show. Between Mark and Howard Stern, Sirius is worth every penny.

Was when she spent an entire two hour show talking about Kelly Clarkson.

What the Hell does an "American Idol" singer have to do with a supposedly Liberal radio channel??
