If Hillary forces - or publicly attempts to force - her way onto the ticket
Mccain will be President.

Just a little tidbit of information.

1. what makes you think that
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 02:27 PM by griffi94
obama would still be at the top of the ticket. you can't mean that obamas supporters would not vote for him because he chose hillary as his vp.
what if not putting her on the ticket cost him the election. wouldn't that be the same as cutting off his nose to spite his face.

6. Several reasons
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 02:30 PM by lsusteel
If she is successful:

1. Huge loss of independent support
2. Loss of white male support
3. Loss of Obama republican support
4. Hill & Bill would steal the spotlight. VP campaign job #1 - don't upstage the President
5. Obama appears weak - his aides don't want her. If he yields to her demands, can't you already see the GOP jumping on it? "Obama couldn't even make up his own mind about who he wanted as VP...how can he lead the country?"

If she is unsuccessful:

1. Hillary supporters get even more pissed off. "YOU MISOGYNIST JERK! HOW DARE YOU NOT TAKE HER AS VP? WHAT, DO YOU THINK SHE SHOULD BE IN THE KITCHEN? I BET THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK! WELL WE WON'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. COME ON, ROSIES, WE GOTTA VOTE FOR MCCAIN"

2. Gives the appearance the Obama thinks Hillary and her supporters and 17 million voters are unimportant. Totally bogus, but those 17 million might buy it.

Either way, if Hillary goes public with her desire to be VP, Obama is going to lose tons of votes no matter what choice he makes. It's a catch-22.

Jesse Jackson came in second and there was a massive movement by his followers to force JAckson onto the ticket as Veep.

We all know what happened to Dukakis.

2. Nope...he won't
Hillary is fading. The 18 million she 'commanded' yesterday are already leaving the building and lining up behind the candidate. Her SuperDs will bail really soon now.

The country is ready for change, all Clinton can do at this point is maker herself look bad - I mean last night she embarrassed herself. It will be written in the history books that on the night the first black man was nominated for the US presidency, his nearest opponent had a tantrum, refused to concede or congratulate him. That is now part of the Clinton legacy. Any further pushing on her part will only help him, it will make her look ridiculous and people will feel sympathy for the candidate and animosity toward her.

5. right i'm sure the history books will report it just that way
i'm starting to think she may be able to force him to put her on the ticket. wouldn't it be better to win with her as vp than lose.

8. She won't be VP, and he won't lose
I think there are better VP candidates out there, Obama/Clinton is simply not a good match (all 'bargaining' aside). Richardson maybe, he would help with latinos and in the southwest in general.

13. right just like there was no way
the patriots could lose to the giants...except they did. and to quote obamas own supporters "what happened to hillary being inevitable.
there was a thread on this page about democrats sticking their heads in the sand. you're doing that now.
just because you don't think he'll lose doesn't mean he won't. remember this time in 04 when kerry was beating bush. how'd that work out.

20. Sorry, Hillary doesn't bring to the ticket what other Candidates could
and Carter has already said it's a terrible idea

and Obama formed a search committee today (which sends a message all on it's own)

Hillary is not going to be VP - she also Lost the primaries oh and there's no Santa Clause (may as well get all those bubbles burst at once)

25. yeah carter and mondale
how can we go wrong listening to those two after their landslide victories against the gop.
i'm not advocating for hillary as vp, but if he has to take her to get her supporters behind him, it would be unwise to cut off his nose to spite his face. hillary still pulls plenty of horse power in the party, and compromise tickets have been used in the past. jfk/lbj just to name one.

31. wow
you disagree. i guess that makes it fact then. i would also guess that in your world kerry is finishing his first term.
there are already groups of clinton supporters gearing up to actively oppose obama in ohio and pennsylvania.
those are states she carried in the primary that obama will absolutely have to win in november. they are true swing states with ohio going for bush both times. but since you disagree, well i guess that settles it. lol

Meaning prognostications and assumptions on your part.

It's o-k to admit it as mere opinion and suppositions rather than fact-- we all do that. :)

will make Obama look weak. And with her comments about being a vulture waiting for something drastic to happen...God what a mess. It's all about her ego. All about Hillary Clinton.

She was successful in sucking all the joy out of this historic moment.

21. False
You obviously don't understand just how divisive Hillary is, and just how much independents don't like her.

If Obama chooses Hillary, he will lose the independent vote in virtually every state.

30. Do me a favor...
Go look at the SUSA ticket polls and look at how much Obama's independent support drops with Hillary on the ticket.

Hillary is well-known and well-defined. Those numbers aren't likely to change like they would with an unknown.

So we have different opinions-- I'm optimistic and think the White House is in the bag regardless and you're not. Sorry if that punctures a few personality-oriented sacred cows. Big fucking deal, right?

18. Obama's got to work past her
With last night's antics, she has shown once and for all that she can't be trusted. As VP nominee, she would sink him, with a sly smile, to position herself for 2012 or for a McCain cabinet position. If she's not VP nominee, either she'll decide to be a decent party member or she won't. There's no way she's going to be his great ally in party unity. She showed that. So Obama's got to just figure she's gone to the dark side and he should do his best to beat McCain without her help. Even in defeat, she could have shown greatness. But she can only show pettiness. She is apparently not capable of doing otherwise.

Remember the tale of the scorpion and the frog. Obama's the frog. Do you think he should give the scorpion a ride across the river?
