Thom Hartmann changes his mind
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 11:38 AM by eleny
Talking about Clinton on his program this morning.

He's disappointed with Hillary's not conceding last night. He said that up until last night he supported her for VP. Now, not so much. Says she is pushing Obama to such an extent that perhaps Obama shouldn't ask her to be on the ticket with him.

13. Thomm said he was on Fox this morning
The host said that Hillary is "blackmailing" Obama. Thom just said that he hesitated but then agreed with the host.

58. Hillary's pushing for the VP slot so forcefully is really putting Obama into a corner ...
... where he will have no choice but to NOT offer her the slot. He can't be seen as buckling to pressure.

43. "It's like he doesn't know anything about her."--or he is clueless about...
the very foundations of Obama's campaign.

Having Hillary as VP would be like a vegan asking a beef wholesaler to help the vegan run a vegan food company. The two are so completely different, with different goals and beliefs, that the vegan and his/her company would suffer tremendously.

And then there is the assassination thing...as another poster posted yesterday, "Obama asking Hillary to be his VP would be like him adopting the Menendez brothers."

20. He's been correcting callers re: Hillary for weeks now - correcting them to
make her seem more like he wishes she were. I don't begrudge him wanting to give people the benefit of the doubt -- that is a trait he shares in common with Barack Obama, but I think, perhaps, both he and Obama realized something new last night about Hillary, something that many of us had known for a while now.

Barack and Michelle as they watch Hillary's non-concession speech:

He said as they watched the first five minutes of Obama's speech which was about how well Hillary did and how great her campaning was, his friend said to Thom that the speeches had something in common.

Both were about Hillary.

28. I think he finally realizes that trying to be "even handed" in this case is harmful...

He's seeing that sometimes there are some situations when it doesn't pay to bring someone in a position of trust who demonstrates strongly they can't be trusted, no matter what the tactical benefit appears to be there.

Hillary has taken herself out of contention by her continued "attitude problem"!

My thinking is that he has been ashamed of her all through this campaign, and that this is the best excuse to finally say "that's enough".

35. This is my observation
The person always ready with the goodwill and healing and rational approach is now forced to run up against the negative, and leaving HRC behind. This in my mind is consistently better for the situation since the negative will always rise up horribly to make Hillary a burden more than a plus for the ticket.

By destroying these one sidedly positive sentiments she has done us one favor at least. there is nothing left now to counteract the daunting(and unmentioned by her admirers) negative argumentation that simply is there regardless of anything Hillary could have said or done these past few months or into the fall campaign. Instead of working for that rosy glow she manipulates it, makes no concessions to politics and proves she will not handle(well) the negative burdens she brings to a possible ticket.

In most things Hartmann is very smart and very experienced. If the entire electorate moved by that wisdom
everything would be fine and he sees the evils and flaws we face very well. Yet Hillary is not there and is playing to the other side or her side instead. It only works or is made to work for the GOP.

40. Thom's Hillary position these past weeks surprised me
When I tuned in this morning, I half expected him to be persuading us to go along. So it was good to hear that he woke up to her core motivations. I have this image of him watching her speech last night going from waiting for her concession to holding his breath and worrying that she would say "On to Denver!". I know that last night I was worried about that more than anything.

Finally, this morning, Thom Hartmann has seen the light.

Yes, it would be a grave error to include her on Obama's ticket.

And, for someone who has actively worked to undermine Obama's character and presidential campaign, she should not be allowed any substantive chance to undermine his agenda in the future by mistakenly awarding her a consolation prize of Senate Majority Leadership.

Put herself out there in a stateswoman manor. Dazzle everyone with such classy grace that O would look crazy if he didn't have her at the tippy top of his VP list. But she disappointed Thom so deeply that he's now discussing her manner in terms of pathology. Given Thom's background, it must have hit him last night like a baseball bat.

63. The View. Now there's something that makes me embarassed to be a woman
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 03:41 PM by ErinBerin84
I watched it today to see what their reaction would be. Whoopi said that the view should get credit because they were the first people who were discussing the dream ticket months ago. The sad thing is, I think she is serious. And as a whole, they are so uninformed that it's ridiculous. Whoopi's whole rationalization for picking her primary candidate was choosing the person who "first brought up closing corporate tax loopholes overseas" or something. And she announced that she heard Obama bring it up, so she was going to vote for him. And then Chelsea called her and said that Hillary had brought it up in May, so Whoopi switched and voted for her on February 5th (honestly, both Hillary and Obama were probably talking about this the whole time, does it really matter to her who said it first? It's not that original of an idea). Elizabeth was in full on Republican hack mode today, pirating McCain's talking points perfectly. She used to be a total bush cheerleader, but now acts like it never happened. She has been going on and on every day about how Obama is most!liberal!senator!, but today she said that "obama has sided with Bush more than McCain! ". And she said that Hillary should keep going on because she has the popular vote. Barbara said "two words, Al Gore", but it really pisses me off that people have such willful ignorance of the popular vote myth. She doesn't have the popular vote!

I remember a couple months ago when she said "Years from now, the surge will be looked back upon for its genius".
