A message from Hillary
This should answer some lingering questions.

I want to congratulate Senator Obama and his supporters on the extraordinary race that they have run. Senator Obama has inspired so many Americans to care about politics and empowered so many more to get involved, and our party and our democracy are stronger and more vibrant as a result.

Whatever path I travel next, I promise I will keep faith with you and everyone I have met across this good and great country. There is no possible way to thank you enough for everything you have done throughout this primary season, and you will always be in my heart.

Sincerely,
Hillary
Hillary Rodham Clinton

Be sure to read some of the comments.
It's very sad, and a bit scary.

40. She COULD have done so, but she most definitely did NOT.
Instead, she evaded acknowledging what is perfectly clear to all by now

A poster earlier on this thread pointed that out by quoting this: "I want to congratulate Senator Obama and his supporters on the extraordinary race that they have run".

as an acknowldgement that he won the nomination and she congratulates him and his supporters. She could have been clearer but that's how I took it. Today couldn't have been easy for her.

13. I'll try to say this careful
out of respect for Auntie Bush since they posted a real nice message of support for Obama recently.

I'm not sure what the message from Clinton actually says or that it means anything. Obama inspired people? That's not new, she's said that from the start and in part used it as an attack. Angels will sing, celestial choirs, and so on. She's switched from backhanded "compliments" of the sort to attacks based on it for ages now.

She promises to keep faith with her supporters? How does that suggest anything in particular? Could as easily suggest she's going to keep fighting "for them" as it could mean anything else, she's claimed it was for her supporters for ages now and I don't see what changed here.

As far as I can tell it doesn't really answer or clear up anything.

28. You gotta read between the lines sometimes.
It cleared up a lotta things for me. I took it as good-bye. She couldn't come right out and say it because she hasn't FORMALLY conceded YET...have patience! Give her a break and have some compassion. Her dream of a lifetime has ended. Mine too...regarding ever seeing a woman president in my life time. Try to imagine how people who were very emotionally connected to Clinton must be feeling. Hint. They same way you would if Obama just conceded.

32. I hope you're right
I'd dearly love to see some unity in the party, and on this board. You made an admirable effort the other day and I've seen the same from others so I don't want to say or do anything at the moment which I'd regret later. Based on this campaign though people have said it's over or that she'd relax and attack McCain instead of Obama before and that's not the way it worked out. I guess I'm in a "I'll believe it when I see it" mode or something.

One point though. If Obama had lost and conceded it wouldn't mean a thing to me. I wasn't a fan early on and I'm not a "fan" now, I turned away from her and her tactics rather than toward him. Before that kitchen sink attack came out I didn't like either much based on record and position alone, it wasn't until the tactics came out that I decided I liked the style of one a lot more than the other. Reminded me too much of the last few years and what we're trying to change away from. There's a lot of us out there like that, his support shot up as her campaign got going and I think as a direct result of her campaign. Was for me at least.

If she had won it would have had to have been with other tactics, the nation has turned away from the aggressive style she has campaigned with. If she had run a clean race she might have won, earned it, and I'd think he should step down just as I think she should now.

39. I've thought long and hard on that point about Hillary
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 12:55 AM by dmr
Her dream of a lifetime ...

That is a dream. No, it's a beautiful dream.

One night, curled up in bed, I thought about what it must be like to live in the White House, and I thought of Hillary. She lived in that House for 8 years. Before that she lived in the Governor's Mansion in Arkansas, though I don't remember for how long. I remember in 1999 when they were looking for a home to move to, she said she hasn't had her own home in so long. Remembering that made me sad. Her memories must hold a lot of comfort for her on a very personal, intimate level.

The hustle and bustle. The constant activity. Shaping the lives and landscape around America and world. The State dinners. Visiting dignitaries, and so many more important leaders and people in this world. Having the pulse of America right in your very fingertips must be very appealing, not to mention the buzz to have the world at your fingertips, too. I don't know how to articulate what I'm trying to say, but I think you might get the idea.

The White House would be hers, as President. No longer a First Lady, but President of the United States of America! How intoxicating is that? She has tasted it, and she wants to taste, smell and feel it again - but in a much different role this time.

It's gotta be very hard to let go. I only wish she hadn't burned bridges, and hurt a fellow Democrat in the process. But in my own simple way, I've been trying to understand.

That said, I hope you are right about the note she posted on her web-site. I don't agree with how she's doing it, but I'm trying to comprehend. If only for my own sake.

Thanks for posting the note.

Edit: spelling

52. Yes,....... She emailed this to her supporters last night.
I take it for what it's worth and I wish others would too. That would make it easier for her supporters to change their allegiance. Don't forget... to be a real Obama supporter...it must come from the heart...not just from your hand on the lever.

Hillary supporters are going to have a hard time being "true" Obama supporters if his supporters continue criticizing Hillary and posting hateful, unnecessary, unproductive comments. IT MUST STOP... if we are going to unite this party. I'm really trying to do my share and have an attitude adjustment...but that is something that takes time, practice and forgiveness. It doesn't happen overnight...but we can try. YES WE CAN!
