Wanna feel even better? Take a trip over to Free Republic. Sometimes Freepers do speak truth...
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 10:50 PM by sfam
I gotta tell ya, If you wanna get an even higher pick-me-up, nothing's better than lurking over at Free Republic right now. Here's a nice cross-section of a bunch of the comments from Obama's speech:

I work full time in public relations. Let me tell you..this is not the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s...this is the age of the Internet, split second media sound bytes, and IMAGE. Obama has a fire lit right now that McCain can’t even touch.

This is a going through the motions and nothing else. The GOP selected McCain because he had earned his dues just like Bob Dole.

We have lost already. I am not one of those doom and gloom people either. McCain can’t draw flies from shit. He is boring. He is scripted. He is swarmy. He is arrogant. He is cocky. He is angry. He is NOT going to win.

Can't draw flies from shit? Wow, that's bad...

WOW! Obama KICKED McCain’s butt. McCain is in trouble. He can’t speak - he is so old that it is turning off voters - Obama has youth/looks/speaking abilities.

McCain better get his act together. His speech sucked tonight.

Good luck on getting his act together. With that Frankenstein "smile" of his, he's got a REAL uphill slog...

Obama has a throng of thousands who show up to hear his speech.

McCain has a throng of a few hundred who showed up to hear his.

(Is the McCain speech available on video yet? I missed it, but from the posts, it was anything but inspiring.)

Here's the response:

You don’t want to listen to it- it was embarrassing (though he did get in some shots at Obama and “change”)Better to read the transcript..some of what he said was good- his delivery was simply terrible.

Obama scares the crap outta me. Seriously.

There were LOTS of posts saying to just "read" the speech due to how bad McCain delivered it...

McCain’s speech was so horrible it had guests at dinner laughing at him and the pathetic crowd response and message. This is an old tired cranky man whose time has passed.

The GOP is such a mess for putting this garbage up there. Obama is talking to 22,000 screaming people right now and McCain had what looked like 2 maybe 300 people barely clapping.

This could be a rout.

22,0000 (32,000 actually) to 300...hmmm...yep, sounds like a rout.

Folks, I think we are gonna have to cling to our guns and bibles alot in the future...

This was my fav line I think...start clingin, freepers!

And the bottom line...

McCain was terrible - just terrible.

It’s going to be a loooonnnngggg 4 years...

About time they had to cry in THEIR beer for a change.

Change. YES.

For a CHANGE!!!

And btw - I note with some hilarity the comment from one of those lovelies about how "it's going to be a long four years." HAH! Four years? You wish! Try EIGHT. AT LEAST!!!

110. It can happen ...
We are set to gain seats in both houses of congress and in many state legislatures. Obama can't win us states like GA, and Missisipi, but he can drive turnout in those states and help us gain seats in those state legislatures. In about 2 and a half years, it will be time for congressional redistricting. The more statehouses controlled by dems, the more places where we can reverse the repub-favoured districting that happened after the last census.

The dems could end up dominating American politics for years to come ...

106. But all that doesn't matter. Remember, the voters elected GWB
in the face of lies, wars, bad economy, and stupidity. The only thing diff is McCain is old but that won't matter to voters come November. They chose Bush over Kerry. Don't tell me they won't pick McCain over Obama.

137. I disagree. Gore won and Kerry won.
People voted for GWB for sure, he was appointed by the Supreme Court after disenfranchising (at the very least) Florida voters in 2000, and by 2004 they had corrupted Ohio with SOS Blackwell and bollixed that election for Kerry. I agree that we can't be complacent just because McCain is old. People DO want change and Obama has already brought change to the Democratic party. You won't find anyone but a fool who would say to Obama: "Bring it." at this point. Have hope!

and the second time Diebold did. America won't pick McCain, but what we have to worry about are the paperless voting machines.

145. Every place should have the scanners like they do here.
The votes are scanned into computers and there is a paper trail left by the papers that have been scanned. I hope they outlaw all the touch screen voting machines. That is the only way that we can keep a repeat of 2004 from happening. Also, there should be monitors at places with large AA population so that the intimidation of these voters cannot happen again. Sometimes I feel like we have gone backwards in the last years, oh hell I know we have, as far as voters rights and other oppressions.

from freepers regarding McCain,
and these are from ONE page ...

...
God help us all.
...
I think I’m already asleep....
...
Amen he is like taking Ambien I always get sleepy listening to him
...
Why, oh WHY...does he always sound:
A) Angry
B) Like an automaton
...
C)Like a Hypnotist
...
We need to start a fund for a speech coach for John....
...
Dammit, another one of those grins at his own lines like he was doing in the first debate. That’s a very annoying habit.
...
We are so screwed.
...
We’re going to need a lot of alcohol.(or caffine)
...
Just tuned in - Katrina card? Sickening
...
McCain is sooo lame......
...
Someone with image experience needs to get with McCain and have him change some of those annoying habits. Like the winking and the “my friend/s” etc. Sometimes it is condecending.
...
Sometimes? LOL!
...
Ohdearlordhelpus...that sing-song monotone he uses..
...
Sad
...
And his speeches are like little bedtime stories
It’s like he is speaking to a bunch of gradeschoolers
...

They also don't like him trying to look like a Democratic wanna-be...
"I turned it off while he was singing the praises of Hillary and Obama.
Get a room, the three of you."
or trying to distance himself from Bush...
"McCain speaks with a little halo over his head these days.
He just slammed Bush on the war in Iraq. Why is he beating up on Bush!
God help us."

They would openly tell Ana Marie Cox and anyone who would listen, "This Obama guy.... we're just never gonna get crowds like that."

It's June, and it's still true. It'll still be true in November. And just to shove it in your face, GOP, Obama gave his speech before 32,000 in that hallowed hall in which you'll actually nominate that doddering old fool in September.

Their claim to fame was "exposing" Dan Rather's story about the documents he used to prove that Bush lied about his service.

By now, I'm sure many of them are suffering from buyers remorse.

Coupled with their fearless leader's ill health has left them all a bit dismayed and without any guidance.

They won't be around much longer and at least some of them have seen the writing on the wall.

71. I posted this on another thread, but it applies here, too
Look at what happened here where I live in Reno. They don't want McCain:

Chaos over Paul cuts short gathering

After a super-majority of Ron Paul supporters captured control of the Republican state convention Saturday, state party officials abruptly canceled the event without electing delegates to the national convention.

Early in the day, state delegates supporting Paul's continued pursuit of the Republican nomination voted through a rules change that forced the state party to abandon its preset ballot of potential national convention delegates and open up the race to the rest of the state delegates.

The vote followed a rousing speech by Paul of Texas, who said his presidential campaign will continue as long as he has support.

But as the convention continued into the evening, chairman Bob Beers said the party's contract for the hall at the Peppermill Resort Casino had expired and the event would be rescheduled.

~snip~
http://www.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080427/NEWS/804270360/1321

And last I heard, the infighting continues, with a large portion calling a separate meeting or something.

We can do this and we will. The only way McCain and the Repugs can win is if they have a plan to steal it. And, that plan has to be far better than just some old crony swiftboaters, IMHO.

Thanks again for wading through that shit over at that horrendous site. Interesting and encouraging post.

ROTFL!

At least they have a sense of humor.

We might even get a few votes out of them, who knows. I was talking to an "independent" today - voted for Bush twice, loves Glen Beck and Lous Dobbs. Yeah, right. But he likes Obama. And hates Bush now. And is also an ex-Limbaugh and ex-Hannity fan - hates them both now. It's amazing the change in some of them over the last 3 years. He says, at the moment, he's going to vote for McCain... but he really likes Obama, and hopes he picks Sibelius as his running mate - says he might vote for that ticket. Go figure!

Don't get me wrong, I love me some pissed off freepers. But their political analysis ignores the fact that Obama will have to overcome serious prejudice in this country. His campaigning ability is a huge asset that he will need to use to the fullest extent to win in November.

61. Still early to know how this will turn out
By all means Obama should win because he is inspirational and has a clear message whereas McCain can put a corpse to sleep and is going back and forth and has no real vision for America's future.

But we underestimate the GOP smear machine at our own peril. McCain's only chance to win is if he can scare enough people into not voting for Obama. And there is a good enough chance of that for me to not take anything for granted.

59. This is EXCELLENT news ....
Why ? .... Because, given the extreme dissolution of the VERY right wing of that party, we are going to find more moderate GOPers jumping that sinking ship and crossing the fence to become 'Obama Republicans' .... If simply from human disgust over the state of their party today ....

The Republicans in the center that appreciate the difference in VISION presented by each party, and how well Obama carries himself versus the gruff and ugly GOP party line, might see this as the best opportunity to walk away .... EVERYBODY loves a winner ....

An articulate and lucid visionary versus a cantankerous old codger : ....

Damn : It is gonna be Christmas in November ....

And I agree with the Bob Dole analogy.

You know, everyone talks about the 'divide' in the Democratic Party..but what about the Republicans? I'm having trouble counting on both hands the number of Republicans/conservatives I've seen, both online AND off, who are dissatisfied with McCain. Hell, I'm STILL surprised the Republicans nominated him. Now I don't want to get presumptuous here or complacent, but right now, I'm feeling like this election won't be nearly as close as a lot of the pundits suggest...

I have to admit, this stuff reminds me of a (rare) article I read a while ago from David Brooks (I think) who basically said all the Democrats he knows are pessimistic and convinced the Dems will lose, and that all the Republicans he knows are also pessimistic and convinced the Repubs will lose.

Maybe it's just been these two last CLOSE elections for President -- everyone's a little shell-shocked, like World War I soldiers, no-one wants to go "over the top" after the carnage they've seen PLUS the fact that even a "win" is only a matter of a few yards either way. No-one's been close to Berlin (or Paris) by Christmas, let me tell you what!

134. Since you're studying the Freepers . . . What is it that they want from more GOP gov't . . . ???
Obviously "guns and bibles" . .. egads!

...but are they waking up at all to Global Warming --- ?
Do they like warmongering and wars --- ?
Do they believe the terrarists are coming?

Do they like a bankrupted Treasury?

Oil prices?

146. Power...they want power....what they want to use it for is truly odd...
To make the world over in our image...we've seen how well that has worked.

Basically, you have free lunch republicans (pay no taxes, but get lots of freebies), war mongers, and the flat earth society each wanting different things. But it all boils down to power.

140. One problem that might crop up is that they don't accept McCain's nomination at the convention
And the delegates pick someone else. I am sure there are loop holes that will allow them to force McCain out or for the delegates to not be bound by their state votes.

142. Sorry, it's going to be a long 8 years, not 4
If I were a Republican, what I would be scared about is ending up actually voting for Obama. I don't think even conservative republicans will be immune to Obama's message, inspiration, and energy.

147. That's the best part. Their "good" candidates cancelled each other out..
That they would think either Romney or Huckabee would have a snowball's chance in hell is even funnier than their responses to John "Watch Grass Grow When I Speak" MeCain.

I think it is going to be more than just four. Hopefully, a lot more! It is going to take multiple Democratic presidents to undo as much as possible of the harm the chimp has done to this once great country. Hopefully it will take much less time to indict him and his accomplices.

152. Freepers I have some news for you. The GOP picked McCain because
they knew he would lose. This way they can sit on their big fat hemorrhoid asses and point their bony shit stained fingers at Obama for doing what's necessary to clean up the fucking mess that your party created! Same old shit, just a different era.
