And congratulations to all of Senator Obama's supporters here on Democratic Underground and elsewhere.

This has been a historic primary -- the most exciting, hard-fought, and talent-rich primary I have ever seen and ever expect to see. It has not always been easy, especially here on DU. But I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to watch it, and to play a very small role in it. I have great respect and admiration for both Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, and I would have been happy with either of them as our nominee.

But as you know, only one can be our standard-bearer in the general election. And that standard-bearer is Senator Obama. He has run a brilliant campaign, and I believe he will be an exceptionally strong candidate in the fall. I look forward to uniting with my fellow Democrats to support Senator Obama, and to help him win the election in November.

To those of you who supported Senator Clinton, I know that this may be a difficult night for some of you. And I know that many of you are not quite ready to unite behind Senator Obama just yet. I understand. What I want you to know is this: When you feel ready to join with the rest of your fellow Democrats, we will be proud to unite with you. Together, we will make a great team.

On a related note: As http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Skinner/239">promised the presidential primary on Democratic Underground will soon come to an end. Out of respect to Senator Clinton and her supporters, I do not want to officially end the primary on Democratic Underground until she makes her intentions clear. With this in mind, our TENTATIVE plan is to end discussion of the primary at 12:00 noon ET, Wednesday June 11.

It's been a hell of a ride. I'm looking forward to the next part of the journey.

ON EDIT: Since it has become apparent that Senator Clinton is going to leave the presidential race, we are going to stay with our plan to end discussion of the primary on Wednesday, June 11.

Barack Obama has won the necessary number of delegates, and he is now the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. Since we have a presumptive nominee, Democratic Underground is now transitioning into General Election mode. The one-week transition period has begun, and our intention is that this transition period will end on Wednesday June 11 at noon. I feel relatively confident that we will stick with that plan. But I am not 100% certain, which is why the plan is tentative.

Democratic Underground is a discussion forum, and it is my belief that for the most part the discussions here should reflect what is going on out in the real world. As you know, Senator Clinton has not conceded the race, and has not yet made clear her intentions going forward. I believe she will do the right thing for party unity and drop out -- probably sometime in the next few days. If so, then we're going to stick with our plan. I can understand that to an extent in a contest. The attacks on RFK Jr were too much for me to endure, my check goes unmailed to DU because of that, I am still ill over it. In one day I read that Bobby is an opprotunist drooling over 'his dad's Senate seat' and in my local paper a similar comment that also called Maya Angelou 'a hack with a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.' OK, Maya Aneglou is a hack? Bobby is a drooling opprotunist?
This really put me off of DU. I'm struggling with it, frankly. I voted Obama in the end, this weekend is my district convention to vote for delegates, I'm up to my eyebrows in this stuff. But when I see not only attacks on Democrats but also thread promoting Republicans for VP and other offices, I become confused as to the objectives at play. A site where RFK Jr is machiavelli and Colin Powell and Chuck Hagel are being pushed for high office as good honorable people, well, how is that Democratic? Bobby endorsed someone. Powell helped lie us into war. Bobby is a Democrat. Powell is a Neo-con war criminal.
So yes, bashing of Democrats is a sport for Republicans, as is promoting Republicans for high office.

Way back last year I supported Hillary Clinton for President. I though that Rove's wedge polarization politics had done so much damage to America that Obama would slam into a racist wall if he were the candidate. However, remembering how kind she was when I was subpoenaed to the Rodino Committee on Watergate (I didn't know that her boss on the Committee wanted to fire her for illegal and unethical actions), I thought that there was a certain femininity to Hillary that we may all be missing. That femininity, I thought, we need in the White house, for she would stand by us, the people, and nurse us back into "one people" health. After eight years of healing, I thought, he could follow her into the White house. But then came Bill who worked race, religion, fear and idiocy to get her nominated and failed. I wrote over and over again: Hillary you have to choose, Bill or America. SHE INSISTED ON TRYING TO HAVE BOTH.

Well, now the Clinton nightmare is over. The seamy side of the Democrat Party is fading. They can no longer intimidate people and blowtorch them as if she were running for a Mafia Capo spot.

Still, no one can forget how much outrage the Clintons generated since the start. On the day after Kerry's Nov. 2004 defeat, the Clintons' "security policy specialists" were running around insisting that to beat Republicans in Congress in 2006 or the Presidency in 2008 Democrats would have to out-Rove Rove-- well, the Clintons certainly did that!

Also, back in 2004 the Clintons insisted that the next Democrat Presidential candidate must be on the Middle East as Truman was on Korea. So warmongering were they that even neocons secretly approached her, offering cash and endorsements, the way they had approached Bush in 2000.

Today we have turned a page in more ways than one. The Obama election could do what the JFK election did to American intellect and culture. I was at UC Berkley when "Commies" I knew from New York took over the University with their Free Speech Movement, demanding MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE. When they won, they stuck to their promise. As a result, we fought a war without losing our democracy, thanks to their teach-ins. Bush attacked American Democracy as viciously as he attacked the Islamic World, silencing MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE. McCain was Bush's cheering squad, though he had told Sen. Dashl in 2001 that he wanted to caucus with the Dems. His sycophancy bespeaks his amoral will to do anything and say anything to be president before his melanoma destroys him. Promised Bush's support for 2008, McCain became a hand puppet. And Hillary tagged to Baghdad at his side with her famous head nodding accord for the Iraq War, complying with the Bill Clinton view that Dems must out-neocons the neocons to win.....Now the Bushes, the Clinton and hopefully the McCains will be swept away as a page is turned in the American history book. I only regret that the Harlem blacks that took me in when I came to America are not alive to see President Obama. I remember the pride they felt in showing me their Korean War uniforms-- the first war when blacks were allowed to fight as equals. Now, 50 years later, they could be seeing, not only black soldiers fighting as equals but even possibly soon blacks sleeping in the White House. America is truly turning a very stained page!
