far more often than I have seen them in posts, I find that odd to say the least.

With that said, I have always tried to think at how those words would affect me is spoken about my Mom, my daughters or my ex-wife. Needles to say, I would be pretty ticked off. Considering that Clinton is a wife, a mother and a daughter, I can see no reason to use them.

There are thousands of ways to make one's point w/o resorting to deplorable language. Sadly, some have never figured out that said language does nothing to add to credibility of the poster, in fact, such language actually demeans the one using it, as opposed to the target.

In one case, discussion was what an individual said in a forum that became public, and were a direct quote from a prominent person, discussion in that situation is appropriate. However, 100 threads on the same subject is not just a waste of time and energy, but also a pretty good waste of bandwidth.

In the cases we are talking about here, it is somewhat different. This thread was begun to discuss the situation, and as an OP the words in question may be deemed appropriate to begin the conversation. In the reality of the situation, these words, particularly the "c" word are relatively rare, and depending on context they are dealt with pretty swiftly.

Here is where things get fuzzy though; once the words are used to open a conversation, is it necessary to press the point by using them as often as possible, usually under the guise of "objectivity"? There are some who will use almost any "excuse" to type out words that are overtly objectionable, in many cases, it becomes a "game" of sorts.

I have gone through this thread, and have seen the words in question used far more often in this thread than they have been on the Boards in recent times. While I question just why this is so, I have not taken any action because I do believe that people should be able to discuss this issue and hopefully come to the conclusion that said words are objectionable and should if ever be used, be used in only the most extreme of cases. As long as the use of the words remain in this thread, and are not being used for an attack on another member, things are "OK", (that can change at any time though, I am not the Lone Moderator).

There will always be a contingent that insists on pressing the limit, when lines are crossed, action is taken. Moderators are not ogres, the group I work with are some of the fairest people I've ever known. We want people to discuss issues, that is why this site exists, but when there are a few, who insist on pushing the doors of decorum till they burst, inevitably action will be taken. Each of us here are responsible for what we post, if we treated people as if we were actually speaking to them face to face, much of this would cease.

As far as how many times those words have been used tonight, I'll mildly disagree with you, because I know that, in the brief time I posted on DU last night, I alerted on at least ten "fucking bitch" posts, and three "cunt" posts--all in reference to Hillary.

And mods quickly deleted them...thanks, mods (as I said in my op).

The problem, however, is that people who are calling themselves progressives use such language at DU, and are being tolerated at DU--allowed to stay. While others get banned over things that, while probably ban-worthy, are nowhere near as offensive and demonstrative of anti-progressive values. As monkeyfunk said above, use of "cunt" should be auto-nuke, just the same if someone called Obama a "nigger."

If someone called Obama that, I'd be the first to alert on them and to agree with a ban. There should be no place at DU for the use of either "cunt" or "bitch."

We have allowed quoting of McCain calling his wife a c*nt, as he seems to have done, since it is straight reportage and discreditable to a leading Republican, establishing him as a pig and a boor. It is emphatically not allowed in common usage here, and a person, even tonight, who employed it to characterize Sen.
