This is moment to stop and reflect on the monumental change and historic moment this represents.

Only 50 years ago blacks in America were being chased with dogs, shot with water cannons, denied the vote, denied even the right to eat at a drug store lunch counter.

Now, upon the shoulders of those brave civil rights pioneers, a man stands poised to step into history.

And you were there.

6. agreed completely. my dad was a skinny kid in Portland, Oregon
in the 1940's when he would get up and let some tired black woman sit in his place and often got pounded for it but he was brave, my dad. he is smiling from heaven, he and my mom, who once slapped a man's face for using the n word in front of her and her family. My mom and dad are muy happy today. I can't describe how elated I feel at long last this is over and in a very great way.
