28. I suspect that is routine with this procedure.
I heard Teddy was not under general anesthesia while being operated so as to ensure he is able to maintain critical neuro functionality. I can't even imagine going through that.

Get well soon, Liberal Lion! We need you!

Glad to hear that this part is over, hopefully things will get easier.

31. Luckily, even brain surgery isn't brain surgery...
There's a little more room for error than you might think for two reasons;

1) You have to screw up very badly, make a serious slip, to create a noticeable malfunction. In the motor region, there's a great deal of forgiveness.

2) Brains heal marvelously from expert surgery. Especially the motor region. If all was successful, then he should be fully recovered in about two weeks.

The only real concerns now are 'did they get enough of it' and 'how well will he do under chemo'.

4-5 months and they weren't great quality months, either. This was 5 years ago this summer though.

33. Hers was an astrocytoma.. she died on her 36th birthday
It was many years ago, and it still makes me cry .. her husband was an ASS. He was having an affair & left her while she was still in the hospital. He was a geologist for Bechtel, and went off to Kuwait with his girlfriend the day before she was released from the hospital..

My other friend and I took turns taking her to radiation & chemo & caring for her kids (7 & 4) at the time she died.. Her kids were both on her bed beside her (at home) when she died..

After she died, he had her buried in Albuquerque rather than to spring for the cash to send her body back home to her family in Indiana. Her mother & father were too old to come out & help, so she had NO ONE to help her...

He also wanted us to put the kids on a TRAIN ..to go all the way back to Indiana, so a relative there could "take them in".. We managed to find some phone numbers, and someone came for them..I forget now if it was a cousin or aunt.. I think someone eventually had her body sent back there for re-burial.. I lost touch with the family over the years..

35. The doctors suspected a glioma and the surgery and removal confirmed it.
She was only 56 at the time and no other health issues. Diagnosis in Jan., flew to Houston for surgery, home for radiation and then chemo later, and she died in June. It's a mean, fast sonofabitch. :(

22. What they usually do is remove all they can.
Some "threads" of this cancer can't be removed. It's like a spider web.

'A Kennedy spokeswoman said the senator spoke with his wife, Vicki, right after surgery, telling her: “I feel like a million bucks. I think I’ll do that again tomorrow.”'
