Do you remember when Drudge broke the "story" of Kerry's alleged affair with an intern in 2004?
And everyone on DU broke into defensive position, and immediately started rebutting the arguments, and stood behind our candidate, and how the story never developed and the lies were proved as such, and didn't go anywhere.

WTF have we become?

9. I agree. Most people agree as well, yet this problem persists.
We need an honest discussion of how to end this and its grip on our politics.

3. No
But then, we didn't use Drudge as a source as much, then.

10. No, it was during the primaries (before WI ) and
both Dean and Clark responded to it to some degree. Dean was not overt, but he spoke of Kerry's campaign potentially imploding. Clark repeated the rumor as a rumor.

The reason this gained no legs was the way Kerry and the woman responded to it - both saying unambiguously that there was nothing there. The woman later wrote a NY magazine article that spoke of how bad it was being caught up in this. She was in some African country with her fiance when it started and basically had to stay within his family's home because the press pack pursued her even there.

6. Do you remember when they broke a story about an alleged affair and no one cared?
Unfortunately, I can't, but I look forward to the day.

7. I remember it quite a bit differently because I was so angry and
counted the number of threads on it (22 - a number of them by Seventhson who hated Kerry).

There were many DUers who were jumping for joy about it and it did not get shut down until the woman was found in Africa and denied it. In fact, was Ask the Admins still in existence? I'm pretty sure that I complained to Skinner about it I was so upset.

Of course this primary season is 1000x worse with the bullshit/rw talking points that have been allowed to fly. Too bad the 2004 rules weren't in place.

11. We are forced into that position. Just because a story is made up, doesn't mean it won't travel
Think of the Obama-is-a-Muslim campaign started by the Clinton campaign.
