Today and Sunday's summary

6-2-08 - Added DNC Jerome Wiley Segovia (VA) for Obama
- Added DNC Nancy DiNardo (CT) for Obama
- Added DNC Chris Whittington (LA) for Clinton

6-1-08 - Added DNC Yvonne Gates (NV) for Obama
- Added Maine add-on Gwethalyn Phillips (ME)# for Obama

Connecticut State Chair Nancy DiNardo has endorsed Obama

Senator Barack Obama has helped to energize thousands upon thousands of Democrats in Connecticut and across the country. He has inspired the electorate and won their confidence by demonstrating sound judgment, strength of spirit, dedication to those in need, and belief in the transforming power of community. Although we are blessed to have two outstanding candidates for the Democratic nomination this year, Senator Obama was the choice of Connecticut Democrats on February 5th, and he is my choice to head the ticket in November.

Virginia DNC member Jerome Wiley Segovia has endorsed Obama.

"While sharing the valuable international experience of spending a portion of my formative years overseas in a similar fashion as Senator Obama, I am excited to add my support to a campaign that has clearly demonstrated a commitment to an inclusive national field campaign, has shattered all previous campaign fundraising records, and is supportive of alternative sources of energy to begin to solve our energy crisis. I believe that with Senator Obama's leadership the DNC and all Democratic party groups and programs can continue building upon the amazing progress already begun by Governor Dean and his team."

New endorsement DNC Lawrence endorses Obama

Sen. Barack Obama picked up another superdelegate during his visit today to Troy High School.

Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence, who is a superdelegate because of her role with the National Conference of Mayors, said it's time for the Democratic Party to unite behind Obama.

"I was undecided, but he's worked hard to show that he's the best candidate," Lawrence said before Obama arrived at the high school, where 2,000 supporters waited in excited anticipation for the probable

6. It's getting closer and closer
I think it's going to be very interesting to see what happens after the last primaries. I'm still hoping for a reasonably happy ending to this where we will able to work together to elect a Dem in Nov.

7. Battlaglieri (MI) endorses Obama magic number 43
TROY, Mich. (AP) - Two more Michigan superdelegates have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence has told a crowd at Troy High School today that she was supporting the Illinois senator. Obama thanked her for her support when he took the stage at 12:35 p.m.

Michigan Education Association Executive Director Lu Battaglieri says he also is endorsing Obama. That gives Obama seven Michigan superdelegates, tying the number rival Hillary Rodham Clinton has in the state.

Obama has made his second visit to Michigan in three weeks to introduce himself to voters. He avoided the state for 10 months because Michigan broke Democratic National Committee rules by moving its presidential primary to January 15th.

Obama Picks Up Mich. Superdelegate

Posted: Tuesday, 20 May 2008 5:25AM

Pontiac (AP) -- Michigan Democratic superdelegate Eric Coleman has endorsed Barack Obama for president.

The Oakland County commissioner issued a statement Tuesday saying he met with Obama during the Illinois U.S. senator's visit to Warren last Wednesday.

The Associated Press count Monday showed Obama with 1,915 delegates and U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton with 1,721 out of the 2,026 needed for the nomination.

Coleman says he believes Obama is the candidate who will deliver the change the nation needs after eight years under President Bush.

The Democratic National Committee stripped Michigan and Florida of their delegates for holding their presidential primaries too early. Talks are under way for a plan to seat them.

and was likely counted on Saturday afternoon after RBC agreed to seat Michigan. So he has 5 SDs for 3.5 votes, by my count.

33. +5 Supers for Obama today? 2 Michigan and 1 Florida so 3.5
Barack Obama has now picked up five superdelegate endorsements today after adding Michigan superdelegates Brenda Lawrence and Lu Battaglieri along with Florida superdelegate Janee Murphy to a total that already included superdelegates from Virginia and Connecticut. Obama is now 42.5 delegates short of becoming the Democratic nominee.

In her statement Murphy said, “With Florida and Michigan a part of the equation that there is no doubt in my mind that we can come together and it is my job now to hit the ground running and help deliver Florida. As a single African American mother, I feel personally about securing a better future for my daughter, and I truly believe Senator Obama will bring the kind of change our country needs.”

According to the Detroit Free Press Lawrence who is the mayor of Southfield, MI said, “I was undecided, but he's worked hard to show that he's the best candidate. "The beauty of it is that we have two strong, dynamic candidates. But the reality is that the numbers have to add up." Their endorsements along with those of Connecticut Democratic State Party Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo and Democratic National Committee Member Jerome Wiley Segovia bring Obama’s total number of added delegate votes today to 3.5.

42. State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Missouri Superdelegate endorses Obama!

Open Thread: Election Day Superdelegate Endorsements: O +1, C 0

by lizardbox

Mon Jun 02, 2008 at 10:33:34 PM PDT

State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Missouri Superdelegate will announce her support for Senator Barack Obama's run for president today according to Jo Mannies at St. Louis Today.

lizardbox's diary :: ::

It seems that the decision did not come easy

She said she privately had shifted between Clinton and Obama for months. But in the end, the deciding factor was the enthusiasm that Obama has generated among young people and unaligned independents, said Chappelle-Nadal.

At 33, she is the state's youngest superdelegate.

"This is a year that the mere existence of a single candidate, Barack Obama, has inspired people in my district to believe in the greater good," Chappelle-Nadal said.

Assuming Obama gets half of the day's pledged delegates, that would leave him about 25 delegates away from the finish line. And with this announcement, make that 24, and counting... down...
