Poll question: Time for more VP speculation!
Let's assume either foreign policy creds or governing experience are going to be the most important consideration. That would cut out a lot of people who have mentioned thus far.

Who among these people would be the best?

(I know, I'm leaving some out - whaddya expect, there are only ten slots)

2. Will foreign policy or the economy be the #1 issue?
I take issue with your assumption that the most important criteria for a V.P. is foreign policy. Obama will decide his V.P. and he has said before that he will select someone who adds to whatever he needs the most, and it is wrong to assume that is foreign policy. He even made that bold statement a while ago that he feels more confident about his foreign policy understanding than McCain. I think that he will want someone with executive experience and someone who reinforces his message of a united country, so Sebelius must still be near the top of his short list.

5. Biden or Webb. Does Richardson have any military.....
... or foreign policy background at all?

Obama is weak in this area... resume-wise. Just coming on board at the right time ( Richardson) should not a vice-president make. Obama would have won anyway and the other side is going to come at him on foreign policy big time.

6. Very short on women w/strong foreign policy credentials -- what about Sen Barbara Boxer????
She's my first choice, although if Obama doesn't pick a woman (which I think he really needs to, for reasons both of principle AND of realpolitik), Bob Graham is another possibility. Both these candidates would give Obama a good shot in Florida. BOTH VOTED NAY ON IWR (which I consider a litmus test) and Graham has experience BOTH in the senate and as governor.

Among women, there's Sen Stabenow (also voted no on IWR) and Napolitano (also, like Sebelius, no foreign policy background -- why is Sebelius on the list anyway?). An argument could be made that figures like Carter and Clinton (the TWO MOST RECENT DEMS ELECTED PRESIDENT) had only experience as governors, as was also the case with Dukakis. In THIS election however, I think it is political necessity to have a VP pick who (a) never actually SUPPORTED the IWR back when, (b) has strong foreign policy cred and (c) is a woman. Sen Barbara Boxer fulfils those criteria w/flying colors and is very popular, low negatives other than from the RW (which by itself is kind of a plus), no serious baggage AFAIK, strong on Greenhouse (for a pol), and particularly bright and capable ...

7. Biden, Webb, Richardson or Clark
Any if them would make excellent VPs.

I would prefer Edwards or Gore, but I doubt they want to.

8. Wesley Clark
Clinton-backer, foreign policy credentials, military background, from the South, brings in the white male vote in the South (who would never, ever vote for Hillary)
