Anti-Kerry radio ads run on black stations
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5676708/

One of the radio ads addresses Kerry's failure to vote on a bill to extend unemployment benefits for 13 weeks: "It needed 60 votes to pass. Ninety-nine out of 100 senators voted -- Kerry did not! It lost by one vote! Maybe Kerry thought the more of us who are unemployed and hurting, the more likely we would vote Democrat."

Another ad attacks Teresa Heinz Kerry, who, at the Democratic convention last month cited her birth and upbringing in Mozambique and who has described herself as African American. In the radio commercial, the announcer says: "His wife says she's an African American. While technically true, I don't believe a white woman, raised in Africa, surrounded by servants, qualifies."

1. Oh please!
All the people who voted against that bill were Republicans, but the ad fails to mention that!

Teresa's father was a doctor, he was there to do good.

4. She is of African descent.
More directly so than many living here now.

Personally I'm not a fan of hyphenated anyhings. I think it's fairly stupid on all fronts.

3. I probably have more faith in the African-American community
as a group that does not fall for the GOP bullshit than any group of white people. AA's have been lied to and misled their entire lives. They know bullshit when they see it better than any white group.

And one of the most blatant pieces of racism I've ever heard of.

I hope they waste money and run it here. The African Americans I know here in Milwaukee absolutely hate Bush.

7. One thing I agree with
I hate the silly euphemism "African American". What is offensive about saying "black"? All the black people I know call themselves black. "African American", to me, has always sounded silly and misapplied.

The word is used to describe some people who are neither African nor American. In some cases it's used to address people who are black, but not American. In either case, it's a false attribution.

And then it's misleading when you have someone like Ms. Heinz-Kerry, or Charlize Theron, or NFL kicker Gary Anderson who are white as they come, but yet they are truly African, and American.

Sorry for the rant.
