The *OFFICIAL* Memorial Day/ Start of Summer thread
I have a certain tradition every Memorial Day weekend. I blast the album "Born To Run" throughout the neighborhood, ushering in summer. Takes me back to those college days at the Jersey shore. The saxophone part at the end of "Night" that goes into THE summer anthem, "Backstreets", never fails to elicit a tear. I live in the heartland now, but this little rite kicks me into the summer mode. TESTIFY, GD:Pers. What does it for you?

1. I don't really have one. Maybe I should create one.
It couldn't be blasting "Born to Run," though, because I associate that with Fridays at 6 p.m. (Grew up listening to Kid Leo play it on WMMS at that hour, usually after "Friday On My Mind." Also, Ian Hunter's original version of "Cleveland Rocks.")

2. Maybe it's because of where I'm from, Berry
Memorial Day kicked it off. Labor Day shut it down. Aaahhh, those memories of youth. Though long ago, they still resonate.

3. Same thing here, actually.
I'd probably just have to find different music because I associate that particular music with Fridays.

4. Jackson Hole, WY tradtion...
we sit around with hot drinks watching the early season visitors scurry around in their shorts and sandals in the snow. It did it again this year - snowed off and on Friday and Saturday - today was OK, but far from warm.

When people ask what we do here in JH in the summer, we tell them that if it comes during a weekend we have a picnic.
