Parties Plan to Capitalize on New York as Symbol, Depending on Their Point of View

When the Republicans chose New York City as the site of their national nominating convention, the symbolism seemed to play to the president's strength. But Democrats are hoping to turn the convention's location to their advantage.

The Democratic National Committee announced yesterday that it was sending a rapid-response team to Manhattan to try to be a counterpoint during the convention, hoping to highlight what the party is calling President Bush's failures in New York.

SNIP

The Democratic operation will seek to draw on high-profile names - like retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark, the former presidential candidate, and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton - to be surrogates for Senator John Kerry, the Democratic nominee. While none of the specifics have been completed, people working with the operation said the goal is to enlist national leaders and city officials.

I think she/we wanted him a little higher up in it, if you get the drift. :)

BTW, could you PM me with your bookstore addresses? Myself and Mrs. DB might be in the midwest soon (plans still up in the air), and why not throw a few dollars the way of a good guy.

You ARE a good guy, right?? :)

(had to edit the smiley face in) :) :)

Even if not VP....I also argued for making him the official campaign spokesperson on security/military issues....perhaps daily press briefings and statements going out steadily....a real focal point for clarity and explaining things....

So Kerry could do his thing, with Edwards doing domestic issues and Clark surrogating on military/security stuff all the time and not running off to Alaska....In other words, more of a national presence in the campaign on a consistent basis....

We won't have Dem representatives on CNN and MSNBC to critique the convention I'm betting.
