What if we just gave Hillary Michigan and Florida?
Edited on Thu May-22-08 09:04 AM by TwoSparkles
Hillary is using the Michigan/Florida to stay in this race and take this to
the convention, while interfering with Obama getting on with the General Election.

She's doing this under the guise of "caring about the voters" but most people
see through her transparent nonsense. I mean really, her latest "I'm winning
the popular vote" formula--shuts out all caucus states. Iowa, South Dakota,
Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota can be swept aside and omitted, but she'll go to
the mattresses for Florida and Michigan?

She's not interested in voter inclusion. She's interested in prolonging
this process--to weaken Obama. She wants a brokered convention and a big
mess.

So, what is the worst thing that would happen if we called her bluff--and gave
her delegates in Michigan and Florida, that are proportional to her vote totals
in those states?

What is the worst thing that could happen if she got everything she wanted?

The best thing that would happen is that she would no longer be able to prolong this
spectacle.

Would that put her a lot closer to Obama in the delegate count?

I say--take away the distraction that is keeping her in the race.

Obama will handily win the last two contests, and Puerto Rico will most
likely be a wash.

Isn't it worth it, to get her off the stage, if giving her those delegates
doesn't change the outcome?

1. Part of the problem in spoiling the petulant child is that you set a horrible precedent
The states will start breaking the rules, knowing the punishment will not happen. Candidates will no longer honor the DNC rules, because breaking them (like Hillary staying on the MI ballot) would be rewarded. While giving Hillary what she wants, may seem like a good idea, at first glance, it leads to all sorts of problems.

2. No it would be STUPID. She is trying to increase her vote total to
force his hand on VP at the convention. NO, NO, NO. Not to add that the voters who relied on MI and FL NOT COUNTING (thus not voting) would be disenfranchised. And a revote is out of the question b/c it would reward those states for breaking the rules. It would also be extremely difficult to have a clean election.

7. I understand that...
...but what will happen is that this will go to the Convention--and our chances of winning the White House
will be significantly impaired.

Every time Democrats end up with a fight at the Convention, we lose the GE.

That seems like a worst-case scenario to me--that we simply can't afford.

I would think, that next time--things would be done differently. If some states were punished again for
having early primaries--candidates should be forced to sign legal documents regarding no campaigning and
the votes not counting. There were too many gray areas this time--on purpose probably.

Eliminate the gray area next time--and force states and candidates to be bound to the rules, with
no wiggle room.

3. That would not sit well with the voters---"Giving" Hillary Florida and Michigan
just to pacify her is NOT the answer. Many Obama voters would feel betrayed. It is a mess that in my opinion has created a rift that will take years to heal.

4. stage 3
Denial: "It can't be happening."
Anger: "Why me? It's not fair."
Bargaining: "Just let me live to see my children graduate."
Depression: "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"
Acceptance: "It's going to be OK."

5. there has to be some minimal punishment delegate-wise. Do neglect punishment means bedlam
for the party.

6. It won't work to get her out of the race
She hasn't worked (since 2000) to secure voters' voices where black boxes are involved. She was not a champion of voters being heard when she signed the agreement about primaries in this race. She sure as hell has not been a champion of anybody but herself when she tries to make excuses for not counting caucuses that didn't go her way.

Medication, and lots of it is probably the only way to get her off stage. The voters have been beating on that big gong since February and she won't listen to them.

Obsession is not a pretty thing.

8. Exactly, she's going for broke so my advice to Obama is NOT to give her an inch.
Take it to the wire!

NOW - WE ALL KNOW that HRC and her "Devil's Rejects" surrogates are going all the way to the Convention in Denver. :(

9. And a well paid, poor preforming, Penn is probably high-fiving with Rove
They destroyed HRC, Clinton's legacy, AND are on the road to having the DEM convention of 08 make the one in 68 look like a PTA cakewalk.

10. Both states were warned not to move their primaries up, or there would be consequences
What kind of message would it send about rules?

In Michigan Obama wasn't even on the ballot because he was told by the DNC to remove his name. You might be able to present an argument for Florida because all the candidates were on that ballot, but not Michigan

This isn't the first time MI tried to play this game either.

Why should states be rewarded for violating the rules?
