Howard Dean: "We are not going to change the rules in the middle of the game"
In a letter received and excerpted by mod mom:

"I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PARTY RULES. OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS AND THE STATES THAT DID NOT VIOLATE PARTY RULES, WE ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE RULES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME".

It's a good post. Read and rec here:

1. This is all getting very confusing. There is a meeting on the 31st; why not just wait till then to
see what happens. I don't think the rules should change either, but this is like pouring gasoline on flames, it seems to me.

2. It does clarify something about that meeting.
What it tells me is that the results of the mtg won't involve the results in FL or MI to determine the nominee.

Right now, Clinton's position is that the Democratic Party is trying to disenfranchise millions of its OWN voters to ensure Obama's election and deprive a woman of her chance at the Presidency.

*That* is throwing gasoline on a fire.

And if the DNC doesn't explain to people what is going on, simply waiting two weeks until they confirm their decision not to seat, people will wonder if something sneaky is happening.

Listening to the Clinton's, I'd get the impression that the decision wasn't made until a month or two before the primaries and only AFTER it was "obvious" that Obama wouldn't win in those states, thereby depriving HRC of delegates and votes there.

And that is as far from the truth as you can get.

9. My god I hope Mr. Dean sticks to that.
I think he will, but it's not ENTIRELY up to him. That Rules & Bylaws Committee has a LOT of Hillary supporters on it, including Harold Ickes I believe.

10. yeah, I think I was confusing this issue with the so-called joint fundraising that
is purportedly going on, which makes no sense to me either, unless it is solely the Obama camp moving in with the DNC.
