Take your Democratic Hat Off for a second. If you were McBush
Edited on Wed May-21-08 10:28 PM by Laura PackYourBags
who would you pick as VP?

SUGGEST ANYONE YOU WANT.

These are the people McJerk is meeting with:
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080521/D90Q9VF00.html
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney were all invited to a Memorial Day gathering at the senator's home in Sedona, Ariz. Romney ran for the Republican presidential nomination in last winter's primaries, but dropped out months ago and has endorsed McCain.

Hell, at the moment, I can't think of a single good one.

3. Why? We are conceding Florida. I don't get his appeal - he's so
boring, no charisma, and hard to look at.

11. We're conceding Florida?
What gives you that idea, for starters? And I think he's got a lot more personality than Romney, and seems more liked than Romney too. He's got some things done in Florida, he seems more forward looking, for a Republican.

12. Oh...there's a question
Crist is very popular in Florida, but there is, um, er, how shall I put it? There is an unanswered question. I don't think he can enter the national spotlight without an answer to that question.

20. Let me say something completely off topic
Edited on Wed May-21-08 11:13 PM by OmahaBlueDog
I lived in South Florida for a long time. Everyone with a room temperature IQ figured out what it meant when Mark Foley appeared on campaign literature standing next to his sister and her kids. People liked Foley, so no one asked, no one told, and no one cared until.......

Issues like that are difficult for a candidate who will have to campaign wholeheartedly that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, and that homosexuals are not entitled to and special rights or protections because their lifestyle is (in the eyes fundamentalist, GOP supporters) a choice.

I'm sorry -- what were we talking about again?

edited to clarify the POV of the 2nd paragraph

2. If I were McShit
I would choose Romney. I think he can mobilize the conservative base and bring those who think McCain isn't conservative enough back to vote for him. If I was Obama, I would be hoping it was one of the other two - both asshats who give Mickey less of a chance.

6. It can be anyone - not just those three. But - I thought the conservatives
hated Romney (the LDS thing). He would make Wall St happy. But they don't really need that, do they?

9. Maybe until recently they didn't
Maybe the whole FLDS thing would turn some away. But I was always under the impression that Romney would help mobilize the conservative base. Throughout their primary Romney was labeled as "The Conservative" usually being tagged as the most socially, economically, and perhaps even the toughest on foreign policy. I remember early exit polling suggesting that some Romney people felt McCain wasn't conservative enough.

4. It's got to be Romney.
Charlie Crist has white hair. Too white haired guys will look really bad next to someone as youthful and vibrant as Obama.

Bobby Jindal would draw the country's attention to the fact that New Orleans is still a wreck and that won't help the GOP one bit. Combine that with McCain birthday pic taken the day after Katrina and they're done.

17. I don't think it will be Romney
The big knock on Jindal will be lack of experience. Otherwise, he'd be a great pick. Remember, the GOP perceives the Katrina problem to be Ray Nagin's fault -- not their's. Jindal is seen as a new-generation GOP ass kicker and problem solver. The fact that he's of Indian decent taps a growing, affluent minority group. In fact, I think Jindal might already be considered a front runner for '12 if he can stay clear of LA corruption.

I think Romney is their fallback position. He doesn't bring much -- he won't win Mass, for example. The LDS factor really upsets the fundie base, and they're already pissed they're saddled with McCain.

Huckabee is possible, but he's shown he has serious foot-in-mouth disease.

See upthread re: Crist

Sam Brownback would be a possibility. Impeccable conservative credentials, but sharing some of McSame's environmental concern. He's Catholic, but is otherwise beloved by fundies (Dobson loves him). He's leaving the Senate, and he'd still be able to run for Governor in 2 years if this doesn't pan out.

Lieberman is possible, but these two don't agree on much beyond the war. I don't think Lieberman can deliver CT.

Don't rule out Rudy. Yes -- his campaign crashed and burned, but he's perceived as moderate by independents, and can help assure that McSame gets Florida and ensures that the Dems will have to earn (i.e spend money) in New York.

Others worth noting: Pawlenty, Sanford, Condi (I doubt it -- but it's who McSame really wants)

16. I'm picking Romney.
He's not going to help me on the flip-flop front, but then, you don't necessarily want a running mate who will out-shine you, either. He seems to have some real fans in the Conservative base, but he won't turn off the Independents that way Huckabee might. Crist doesn't impress me awfully and Jindal is way too young, which would undo all the "youth and inexperience" stuff I want to unload on Obama (who will likely find a strong VP candidate with foreign policy chops, even though he says he doesn't need one).

Romney has a few things going for him--he's smooth, photogenic, and one of the first things he did when he pulled out of the race was give his support to me--I cannot help but like that. He would make a plausible President-in-waiting if I should find myself holding an unexpected one-man topsoil slumber party.

I'd pick Lieberman if he wasn't, well, you know. Not our people--by which I mean GOP. Of course. And the aforementioned not photogenic, nor a real boost with the Rush Limboids.

Of course, that's what I meant. Otherwise, I'd put him in my pocket like a good luck charm.

Of course, he could go totally crazy and hunt up whatever cabin Gary Bauer is sleeping in. That would be maverick, would get him the hard-core Conservative ties, the guy endorsed him before...and it's totally unexpected. He has the benefit of helping McCain win Kentucky. And I'm just spit-balling at this point.

23. Again, being a recently de-converted Republican, the only VP selection who has any pluses is...
Mike Huckabee. I despise the man and everything he stands for, but he motivated the evangelical base like few others. Nobody else in the Party at this time has nearly his appeal.
