Who is your family voting for in the GE?
If Hillary got the most delegates me, my sister, my mother and grandmother would all vote for her. My husband liked Edwards and my daughter leaned toward Obama.

As it is right now, my sister and grandmother definitely won't vote for Obama. IMO, it's because of his color. They haven't outright said it, but it's one of those things that I can tell.

My mother...I think she might not vote at all. She doesn't like Obama, but when I told her that McCain was anti-choice it changed her perception of him to such a degree that she may sit at home.

Me, husband and daughters will vote for the Dem nominee...no matter who that may be...which will probably be Obama. :)

19. I see a lot of that. Hardcore Republicans feel rejected by Bush politics.
Because when it comes down to it, there really is nothing truly "Republican" about the Bushes. They aren't fiscally responsible and they're fascists who care little about individual rights. They're sort of a conglomeration of everything that's bad about BOTH parties. It's freaky. lol

I got better. They didn't. I have converted a few of them though. It is, however, very much a generational thing. All the older folks in the family will vote McCain. I have 13 cousins (on my mom's side) and about half of them will probably vote for Obama. My sister and I are both voting for Obama.

I'm working on my mom, but there's not much hope there, and zero for my dad. Love'em both, but they're die-hard Republicans of the country-club variety.

My wife, brother and I can all be depended on to vote for the D.

My mom-in-law is going to take some convincing when/if it's Obama because she was adamant about Hillary.

My dad-in-law would vote for a black man for president just as soon as hell froze over -- he's a Republican of the blue-collar trucker variety. ;)

But now we are both enthusiastic supporters of Obama. We are of the age that we remember JFK, and Obama has many of JFK's good qualities.

My daughter in Hawaii will vote for Obama, as will my BIL in CT. My quintessinally yuppie SIL and her husband in Orange County will probably vote for Starbucks.

I have two female friends in their early 60s who I believe are voting for Hillary, but we just don't talk about politics now, so I don't know if they've switched.

13. My older sister doesn't vote.
Edited on Tue May-20-08 03:14 PM by ErinBerin84
My mom is voting for Obama (she originally liked Edwards, she really dislikes Clinton), my dad never votes, even though he really should since he is pretty much a Democrat from what I can tell (he doesn't like the Clintons though). He just has a bad attitude towards all politicians in general. But the other day, he randomly said "I would really like to see what a Obama presidency would be like. I really would." and sounded really positive, so I'm hoping that I can get him to vote. Both of my grandfathers who voted for Bush are voting Democrat and like Obama this year. We are in a blue state, I would feel a little better about all of this if we were a swing state, but I guess everything helps. I was the only one who voted in the primary.

One of my grandfathers who is voting for Obama is um, kind of racist. He reminds me of Pat Buchanan sometimes. He was originally for Mitt Romney and always hated McCain. He is voting Democrat only because he has recently decided that the war is bullshit. I feel kind of silly saying this, but...the NRA called for him the other day (he has never owned a gun, I don't know why they called for him. They called a couple of times, and he was never home), and I said "Stop calling here! We are not an NRA household!" I'm sure she told all of her colleagues about the liberal wacko who she was just on the phone with. Of these, I think only one of my grandfathers possibly, as well as myself, would vote for Hillary in the general if we had to.

My sister likely will, my ex wife likely will not vote and it's hard to say about my sister's SO. He leans Dem, but he has some repub talking points. I think my sis will win him over though. My oldest son (unfortunately) isn't real involved in politics and my daughter will likely vote Obama or (reluctantly) Clinton. Not real sure about cousins. I know one will vote for McCain because he is a staunch repub. Poor misguided guy. I will vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter who he or she may be. I still think that any Dem is better than any repub, except maybe Zell Miller.

29. Not Obama, or anyone really...
My mom has a long list of reasons that she won't vote for Obama, and no, not one of them is race related. She claims that she'll vote for McCain but I'm trying to talk her into just not voting.

My dad, I think, said he won't vote at all.

My sister volunteered for Hillary's campaign and is quite adamant that she won't vote for Obama under any circumstances. She, and apparently most of the people she goes to school with, are refusing to "fall in line" behind Obama and won't vote at all.

And I won't vote at all. I did vote Hillary in the primary even though I vowed for six years that I wouldn't vote for her for anything. She is better than Obama. Neither candidate (as in McCain and Obama)stands for the things I want. And I can't pick the lesser of two evils. Or maybe I won't.

On a rather dreary side note, my sister's fiance is a Republican who lectures her on proper politics based on the rants of Rush Limbaugh who he apparently listens to regularly.

She doesn't trust him completely, but she read both his books (before I did!) and admires him a great deal. She thinks McCain would be Bush's third term and she won't even mention Bush's name out of anger.

I have to believe there is a huge number of Republicans like my mom who feel sold out, embarassed and disgusted with the Bush adminstration will take out their anger at the ballot box in November, by either staying home or switching over.

My life is fine, I have many other options, including going back to Europe where Democracies actually work properly. Again, the US is #17, and the preceding 15 democracies are in Europe and Canada are listed above the US. So, it won't make a whole lot of difference to me, but you gotta feel for the millions who continue to be left behind by the political machine. You don't even have proof for your assertions. And, no, Tweety is not good enough, as I will raise you Pat Buchanan. If Obama lost the nomination fair and square to Hillary (as in lost the delegate count), I would vote for her, and not bitch about "rampant racism", even though it is right here in metro Atlanta. Unlike you, I have a concrete example:

56. Wow, you really are up on your high horse.
A lot of people are fighting hard to get the Democratic candidate into the White House ... if for nothing else to make THREE or FOUR Supreme Court appointments. Obama wasn't their first or second choice, in many cases, but they can recognize the greater good and they support him. Kerry wasn't my first choice, but I voted and donated for him. The supporters of the other candidates have been gracious when their candidate was defeated, but a group of Hillary supporters (not all!) are acting like spoiled brats.

I get it. You don't give a shit, because your self-righteous pity party is more important to you than the future of the country.

45. Obama, of course.
I convinced my mom to support Obama before Super Tuesday. She was leaning toward Clinton before I started talking about the candidates. His speeches following the early contests convinced her. She and I did some canvassing together the week before California voted. Neither one of us had volunteered for a politician before. My sister hasn't gotten her citizenship yet, but she would vote for Obama if she could. Both my dad and my sister's bf do what their respective partners tell them to do (go fig), so there's two more Obama votes.

46. My Independent family is all voting for Obama:
Me, my husband, my Mom, my Dad, my sister. I am not sure about my brother in law. My hubby's Mom is a foreigner who can't vote. It is not an assumption that they would vote for the Democrat; however, they are this time.

47. I am pretty sure my entire extended family will vote for Obama in the GE
Except my libertarian aunt out in California. She never votes for Democrats.

Most of us voted for Obama in the primaries too...my whole immediate family did, as well as my grandparents and my aunt and uncle. My extended family out in Phoenix was split...my 2nd cousin voted for Obama but his mother and grandmother were for Clinton. I don't know how the rest of the family out there voted, but I am pretty sure they will all vote for either Democrat in the GE.

49. Obama all the way.
Nobody in my extended family or my husband's extended family likes Hillary, with the exception of my sister and my mother in law (who was ardently for the Clintons but is now leaning more toward Obama).

He is the first candidate I can remember that practically everybody in both extended families is ENTHUSIASTIC to vote for.

52. My entire family will vote for the Democratic nominee
Both sides, all sides and sides-in-law. The kids, the elders. Democratic. Glad to say. Most backed Obama in the Primaries, with some exceptions in Illinois and CA. The exceptions who backed Clinton or Kucinich for a moment or to the end will all vote for Senator Obama, and those who backed Obama would do the same, all of them. The Nominee gets the votes.

I visited cousins I had not seen since I was a teen a couple of years back. They did not let me in the house until I told them I was a Democrat as an adult. They said if I wasn't they would have been polite, but kept the good stuff for after I was gone. " My pie is not for Republicans" said my cousin. We have no Republicans and we don't want any.

55. My family's all pro-dem in the GE.
Doesn't matter who wins the nomination.

I used to hear some of the "If Clinton wins, I'll vote McCain." BS from them, but I talked them out of it.

67. All of the immediate family is for Obama - and some BIG surprises
I posted this back at the end of March - it's the last entry in my journal. The short version is that even my hardcore republican relatives in Idaho that have never voted for a Democrat in their lives will be voting for Obama. Check out the entry if you have a minute, it's a good story. :hi:

I don't know about the Idaho relatives, but all of the rest of the clan seems to be down with whoever the Dem nominee is, even if they are favoring Obama now.
