Article on Sen Jim Webb moved him toward the VP slot.
Edited on Sun May-18-08 10:28 AM by styersc
Reading this article, a chapter from Jim Webb's Book, had me crying in a booth at a breakfast restaurant. Obviously he is being introduced to the country for his spot on Obama's ticket and I think it would be a great call. Obama/Webb '08. Webb in 2016.

I've got to get this book.

He is being groomed for Senate Leadership. Not VP

I believe VP is Richardson. Sebelius Secretary of state

6. Obama needs a VP with Security creds who can shore up
blue collar America. Richardson's strength is in back room diplomacy. He will be a real asset in the State Department.

8. on Meet the Press, Tim Russert showed Webb
that the press release for his upcoming book that said "already being discussed for VP", and Webb was like "uh, I haven't seen that!"" It was pretty funny. He kind of said "I'm not really interested and no one is asking anyways, I think that I can do great work in the Senate." Biden was also asked about it this morning and he said the same thing about being up for re-election and wanted to be effective in the senate, but also said that anyone who is asked would have to consider.

9. So he decided it was better to watch a child die...
than to lie to his chain of command to get him lifesaving help. I would hope that if he "could do it over again," he would have decided differently.

10. Some folks have remarked about his long ago comments
regarding women in the military or something. I haven't done any research on that yet.

I think he'd be a great VP as long as I'm satisfied that he either didn't say the stuff folks were repeating here, or that he has come out STRONGLY against those views since then.

15. I think you're referring to this....
In the Washingtonian magazine article, "Women Can't Fight," the ex-Marine Webb wrote of the brutal conditions during the Vietnam War and argued against letting women into combat. Allen's campaign zeroed in on passages in which Webb described one of the academy's coed dorms as "a horny woman's dream" and said that he had never met a woman he "would trust to provide . . . combat leadership."

Linda G. Postenrieder, a 1982 Naval Academy graduate and a registered Democrat from California, said the article "infected the brigade with hate and divisive anger." Lisa Stolle, an academy graduate from Virginia Beach, said that for women, Webb's article "was like throwing gasoline" on a fire.

Webb has since apologized for those vile remarks but if you think they won't be resurrected in a GE y'all are being naive. At a time when the party needs to retain the loyalty of many women voters, this won't help.

11. Clark is a possibility as well.
In the WaPo article this AM on the Obama and Clinton teams talking about finally combining their efforts, Clark is mentioned as a possible VP candidate to reconcile the two sides.

I like either one of them. I would vote for either of them for President, that's for sure!

12. We need Webb in the Senate. With any luck, he will be joined there
next session by a fellow Democrat. I think we're pushing our luck if we think we can have the third Democrat in a row elected to the Senate from Virginia.
