I'm going to assume the best case scenario in November....
...Senator Obama wins in a landslide; the Democratic majority in the House increases by a margin of 162 (300 - 138); and in the Senate the Democrats have a filibuster-proof advantage (over 60 members).

So, given this highly plausible hypothetical, what next for DU?

I think we must learn from our knuckle-dragging, moronic kinsman over at Jim Robinson's FreeRepublic and not feel the urge to gloat and become merely a sycophantic extension of the powers-at-be, but hold our newly elected representatives feet to the fire on every issue until they right the ship. My guess, it will take at least two decades to repair what it took the last eight years to break.

1. Hell yeah. They will owe it to us.
We will have to hound them constantly to get Progressive action.

2. I agree
No matter what majority we secure, the minute the new government takes office, we need to be prepared to hold them accountable and make sure they do what needs to be done. Constructive criticism is going to be very necessary.

3. Just because we will have a Dem in the WH and Dem majorities in Congress
does not mean that everything will be wonderful. History has shown us that it still takes a lot of work to get progressive agendas passed in a Democratic Congress (the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 is a good example). Remember, not all Democrats are progressives; even now the Blue Dogs often vote with Republicans on many measures. Our work here will be to pass on information about legislation and how best we can make sure it is enacted. Jan. 20 will NOT be a time to rest on our laurels, but rather a time to roll up our sleeves and really get to work.

4. We keep after our representatives - definitely.
I tend to think it'll take less than two decades to repair the last eight years of corruption and stupidity, though. I hope we're well along the path of resolving the damage of the last eight years by the end of the next eight years. It's going to be interesting to see which issues are tackled first - there are so many that are of high priority - troop withdrawal, Veteran's benefits, the economy, victims of Katrina, energy, Guantanamo, the Dept. of Justice, homelessness,
healthcare, poverty ('Half in Ten' - by John Edwards which Obama is solidly behind). . . so very much to do but we can do it.

6. What's next next is we have the ability to hold our government responsible & with an Obama admin...
...that'll be easier.

I wont expect perfection and if Obama just sat in the oval office and didn't do a damn thing he'd still be 898234 times better than Bush
