Cafferty on Huckabee's "gun" comment: "He's an idiot."
Then, gently upbraided for his "idiot" comment, Cafferty says:
"Let me rephrase. He's an idiot."

4. Gonna watch this one closely. It better not be one of those "if I offended anybody. . ."
Let me rephrase Jack:

Huckabee is a FUCKING idiot.

Worst comment of the primary season so far, and that says a lot.

22. He apologized. (quote inside)
Huckabee released the following statement regarding his comments Friday, according to the New York Times website:
During my speech at the N.R.A., a loud noise backstage, that sounded like a chair falling, distracted the crowd and interrupted my speech. I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama. I apologize that my comments were offensive. That was never my intention.

That is dangerous speech. It begs incitement for someone to do something truly truly terrible.

6. The NRA is apparently not owned by the Repugs ...the second comment (gun pointing) died in a vacuum
The NRA if nothing else promotes gun SAFETY as well as ownership. So, a remark about pointing a gun at somebody is not well received.

The incident appeared to be set up. Huckabee was waiting for the noise so he could make the remarks. Watch the clip.

19. You mean the official NRA charter
doesn't include pointing guns at people as part of their by-laws?? Really?

:eyes:

And Huckabee was waiting for the noise to die down so he could... tell a joke?

Thanks for the enlightenment!

16. When he said "Let me rephrase" I thought he was getting ready to back off,
but NO! The first time he actually said "He's an idiot. He's a moron." And then something like "What more is there to say?"

Tonight, I am still bothered that Huckabee is not being universally condemned for what he said.

18. I'm guessing
that Huckabee isn't going to be on the MSNBC list of "insiders" to cover the democratic primaries the next couple of times (well, you never know. They do keep around Pat. But everyone on NBC and MSNBC seemed disgusted by the "joke" today).

29. MSNBC puts up with Pat Buchanan and they apologize for him too
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jWOCO_efafmW4lPBXAqvW5kKrVdAD90N7D980

Later Friday, Huckabee issued a statement saying: "During my speech at the NRA a loud noise backstage, that sounded like a chair falling, distracted the crowd and interrupted my speech. I made an offhand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama. I apologize that my comments were offensive, that was never my intention."

His later clarification is wanting too. As far as I am concerned the problem with the shock and the disgust is that it is ok to hate so long as you don't show this tendency in mixed company. When Pat goes on rants and expresses his desire to divide the nation along racial lines or expect some gratitude from AAs because of all the nice wonders America provided us, it is fair game and acceptable. When Mike Huckabee makes light of the danger Obama is in because of hatred, it is not fair game.

The right has made up its mind that racism, sexism and a whole lot of -isms are perfectly legitimate means ways of dividing the electorate between us and them...it seems to me the left in this primary has mixed constituencies that think some forms of objectifications are ok so long as you don't call them on it. My concern is once this uneasy coalition has been shown for what it is, will we be able to make it work?

"We don't call public servants idiots.."
