Poll question: How about a REALISTIC poll for President Obama's VP??
John Edwards just said it ain't happening. We KNOW it will not be Hillary, and it damn sure isn't going to be a REPUBLICAN. Two senators on a ticket is suicide, so despite the numerous fans of Jim Webb and Joe Biden (among others) they aren't likely choices.

So who, realistically, is going to compliment our next President, and give us a landslide to bury Grandpa John McLoon?

Vote for your favorite, or nominate your own, since I fully admit I'm probably forgetting someone who has a shot.

1. I chose Wes Clark. I think he's an intelligent, thoughtful person who would also...
...gird the ticket up for the more hawkish Democrats or Conservatives who would like an excuse to feel more comfortable voting for Obama.

And thank you for not listing John Edwards or Senator Clinton. Neither of them make political "sense" on the ticket with these other, better, options.

32. NO Clark. He is a Clinton toady. He cannot be trusted to NOT do the Clinton's bidding...
There are so many qualified politicians who support Obama.

Why choose an untrustworthy Clinton toady? Clark clearly is clueless about the very foundation of OBama's campaign, and would make everything Obama campagined on a lie.

I do hope Clark isn't putting up these posters who keep begging for Clark for VP. Clark made his choice: Hillary. He doesn't deserve to be on Obama's ticket. He deserves to sink into obscurity with Hillary and Bill.

44. I just can't buy into "Every Clinton supporter is a RABID, DELUSIONAL Clinton supporter."
Wes Clark != Hillary Clinton. He may root for her but that doesn't necessarily mean there is something deeply flawed and tainted about him. As a rabid, I mean rabid Obama supporter, I still can't swallow that ~50% of my Democratic brethren are anywhere near as crazy as the politician they prefer to vote for.

I'm all for internal division, cannibalistic strife and internecine warfare but...you gotta draw the line somewhere. You mention him being her toady. Can you back that allegation up? That, somehow, he'd be doing her bidding, instead of his own?

50. I believe Clark is capapble of putting his country and his party before Hillary
Which is why he's on my short list.

I definitely do NOT believe the same about DLC tools like Strickland or Rendell, whose roles in "delivering" the Diebolded primaries in their states to Hillary are supsicious, in my opinion. Certainly both states were trouble spots in 2004.

I admire him tremendously anyway, but he'd also be drawing from Clinton's camp. If not her, someone among her supporters would be a good thing -- and The General is a good thing, indeed.

This is the year for change instead of the "conventional wisdom" of running only moderates.

8. I'd love to see Barbara Boxer on the ticket
But as I said, two senators on the ticket is suicidal. And since we're already running a senator (which itself defies "conventional wisdom") two of them is just asking for two much trouble. Liberal, moderate, or otherwise.

Now if only we had a governor comparable to Boxer....

16. I almost added Bob Graham to the poll
He's been a governor, and has a national security background. But he's also older than McCain, and has a chunk of a cow heart in his chest. That operation was done about the same time he dropped out of the 2003-04 campaign, so it's possible that Graham might not even be interested.

Love the Hagee pic!

29. I'm sticking with Biden
The "two senators can't win" meme is a silly bit of internet nonsense. Biden's perceieved area of weakness is in the area of foreign policy, so I think he needs someone with credentials in that area. Clark wouldn't be a bad choice, but he showed himself to be a bit underwhelming on the stump. Richardson would be a good choice, since he has a nice mix of executive, legislative, and diplomatic experience, and hails from the mountain west, where he could help in NM, AZ, CO, NV, and MT.

That said, I think it should be Biden. He's older, Irish, a devout Catholic, has a compelling personal story (widower at 29, never lived in DC, "poorest" member of the Senate), has family roots in Pennsylvania. He's a master of foreign policy, knows the legislative ropes. He's a tremendous stump speaker, a good debater, and is engaging on television. He's diemember the likes of Romney or Portman in a debate.

Obama/Biden!

The guy would balance the ticket in so many ways... The more you learn about him the better he sounds..

Of course Clark and Richardson would be good as well with their unassailable resumes. But Schweitzer is a colorful character and would keep people interested for awhile. Speaks Arabic and knows the middle east, innovative ideas on energy, NRA approved, has straddled environmentalism and business concerns, works well with republicans.. Although colorful is different enough from Obama to complement and not overshadow him.
