Obama: "I cannot imagine any circumstances in which I would get a tattoo.
If you were under duress.
If a gun was put to my head?

Yes.
Then I suppose I'd have to have Michelle's name tattooed somewhere very discreet.

From an interview in Willamette Week.

http://wweek.com/editorial/3427/10974/

Also his opinions on medical Marijuana:

Would you stop the DEA's raids on Oregon medical marijuana growers?

I would because I think our federal agents have better things to do, like catching criminals and preventing terrorism. The way I want to approach the issue of medical marijuana is to base it on science, and if there is sound science that supports the use of medical marijuana and if it is controlled and prescribed in a way that other medicine is prescribed, then it's something that I think we should consider.

2. I can appreciate that. I'd never get a tattoo, either.
The thought of being 90 years old in a home and having the rose on your flabby ass a subject of amusement is too horrifying a thought.

5. That raises the important question: "has any US president ever had a tattoo?"
Edited on Fri May-16-08 02:11 PM by depakid
On a brief search, one (somewhat dodgy) source asserts:

Both Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were reported to have a tattoo of their family crest somewhere on their bodies, although the specific location is not known.

28. Does a brand count?
Cartoon on Bush recalls Yale frat hazing
BY KIMBERLY CHOWS AND JACK MIRKINSONS
Contributing Reporters

Cartoonist Garry Trudeau '70 said he thinks a little-known fact about President George W. Bush '68's past -- that his first mention in The New York Times occurred in 1967 when, as former president of the Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter at Yale, Bush defended the fraternity's practice of branding its pledges with a red-hot coat hanger -- deserves more national attention.

On Sunday, Trudeau's cartoon "Doonesbury" featured fictional character Mark Slackmeyer explaining the President's position against current anti-torture legislation by revisiting a series of 1967 Yale Daily News articles that exposed DKE's rush activities, which at the time included brandings and alleged beatings. Soon after these stories were published, the University's Inter-Fraternity Council fined the fraternity for performing "physically and mentally degrading acts," and the Times published an article in which Bush defended the brandings, comparing them to cigarette burns.

The News article, published Nov. 3, 1967, featured a photograph of a half-inch high "D" burned into a pledge's naked backside. Trudeau drew his first cartoon for the News for the story -- a picture of smiling pledges, naked and bent over at the waist, with a figure holding a DKE branding iron standing over them.

In a News story the next day, Bush is quoted calling the branding "insignificant." He said he did not understand how the News "can assume Yale has to be so haughty not to allow this type of pledging to go on."

He's tattooed to Bush's ass. Of course, it was a impossible feat until Bush marked the spot for him.

39. Don't know about presidents, but
King George V of England reportedly had one: he was a young man in the Navy when he got it.

Sounds like something Teddy Roosevelt would do! What about JFK? He was a Navy guy as well. As was Carter, but I can't picture him with a tat.

37. I'm with you
My grandfather had tattoos (he was in the Navy in his teens) so I always associate them with Very Old People. They can look very good on young skin, but even ones done in the last 20 years or so seem to have migrated a bit as the person aged.

I have had temporary tattoos, though: I got tired of looking at them after a while so I was glad they could be scrubbed off.

3. I like these answers. The medical marijuana answer has relevance on our prison system.
The first one about tattoos is political non-sequitur. I have a tattoo. I could care less what his opinions of tattoos are.

I really like the medical marijuana answer, though. That has relevance to me. Not from the pot-smoker's point of view but from the prison population point of view. We have faaaaaar too many people behind bars for drug-related offenses, especially marijuana.

It's just a joke how the war on drugs has turned the 20+ million American marijuana smokers (however they are motivated to smoke it) into criminals.

Because the whole "war on drugs" has been a distraction and was designed basically to allow the CIA to get money for black ops that Congress wouldn't approve.

He gets asked why he doesn't wear a flag pin and, with no verbal response, he rips his shirt open to reveal A BIG AMERICAN FLAG across his chest.

That's even better than my suggestion which was to just jam the pin directly onto his chest.

as far as Obama - of course there is NO WAY I would EVER vote for someone who does not have a tat. jeeeeeeeeezus. the nerve of that anti-tatism stance.

29. In a word? Yes.
partly it's the fortuitous political zeitgueist, partly it's that McCainiac is an accident waiting to happen. Partly it's that Obama is a savvy and very tough fighter. Partly it's Howard Dean's work strengthening party infrastructure, and partly it's that Obama has an efficient and smart campaign and a shitload of money.

27. Typical pot smoking hippie and pro-science liberal
GAWD, when will these liberals get over their love of science!

Geesh, isn't it enough that if the Government says it's bad for you, it is, NO MATTER WHAT!!!

Science can't prove that if you're terminally ill with only 3 months to live, and, while pot smoking MIGHT ease your pain and make the rest of your existance bareable, that if you WERE to live another 30 years, you might get CANCER from smoking pot!

Did they ever think of that? NOOOOOO, just because science says that if you're dead you won't suffer the LONG TERM effects of marijuana.

Science - FEH!!!
