Poll: McCain Beats Obama And Hillary By Equal Margin Among Working Class Whites

By Greg Sargent - May 14, 2008, 11:14AM

There are some key numbers buried in the internals of today's Quinnipiac poll that go some way towards deflating Hillary's claim that she would outperform Obama against McCain among working class whites.

It finds that McCain beats both Hillary and Obama by an identical margin among working class (no college) white voters.

Among these voters, McCain beats Obama 46%-39%.

And McCain beats Hillary 48%-41%.

That's a seven point spread in both cases.

What's more, the poll also finds that both lose to McCain by an equal margin of seven points among whites overall.

Let's not forget how Hillary and Bill Clinton have alienated African American voters.

5. Hillary was never popular with the working class, low info voter.
They think she's a socialist/communist devil. Seriously.
Bill however, is pretty popular with them. But the repugs would bring up Monica so much that Bill would have to be retired from campaigning.

7. Could've guess that by the fact that Clinton is losing to Obama...
McCain's and Clinton's problem appears to be the same: not enough bigots.

10. Actually the poll is pretty good for Obama, with over 90% Black Voters for him, and the huge turn
outs he brings. He adds another 10% - 12% to that. Over all compensating for the loss of the white vote. Hillary however will not be able to compensate for the loss of the white vote as much.

11. The Most Important Element Of This, Ma'am
Is that it demonstrates that the white working class voters who did not vote for Sen. Obama in Democratic primaries will vote for him in the general election against McCain....

McCain is the clear choice? OK. If this is really a problem for our party, maybe we need to advertise in more white blue collar locations. How much does it cost to sponsor a stock car? Maybe some signs ringing the rodeo arena? Put the campaign ads where the voters who need to be persuaded are. Some won't change their minds no matter what, but maybe a better campaign would get the interest of others.
