This Is My Last GD: P Post.
Edited on Tue May-13-08 11:34 PM by Plaid Adder
I wasted 2 good hours in this forum tonight and I have only myself to blame. I need to not do that any more. So instead, tonight, I am writing a check to my candidate of choice and leaving GD: P for GD, LBN, and DU's many other fine fora. I encourage those of you who are ready to leave GD: P to do the same.

Here are some signs that you might be ready to leave GD: P:

* You have accepted the fact that the time you spend in GD: P has no effect on the length, the outcome, or the damage done to the party by this primary.

* You have gotten over your uncontrollable urge to post threads whose titles could be accurately summarized as "MY CANDIDATE IS *NOT* A <insert meme du jour> SO STOP SAYING THAT!!!"

* You no longer enjoy primary-related snark, even when it is good snark, and is directed from DUers you respect at known and notorious trolls and assholes.

* You have reached the conclusion that nobody left in GD: P is any more persuadable than you are.

* You realize that if it is not over you cannot make it so by posting that it is over, or vice versa.

* You spend as much time being embarrassed by threads your candidate's supporters post as you do being pissed off at threads posted by the other candidate's supporters.

* You find reading most GD: P threads about as enjoyable as watching your parents fight.

I know I'm ready. So, I look forward to seeing the rest of you around elsewhere on the site, either before or after someone finally sticks a fork in this Godawful thing we call the 2008 Democratic primary.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

Love you. In a totally non-threatening way, of course. :loveya:

I've read you for years but I've never taken the time to let you know how much I appreciate you and the way you string words together before. You're a wise soul and I enjoy being able to partake of your skill and wisdom.

You've hit it out of the park yet again.

I think it's lost its usefulness and is doing more damage than good at this point.

Every day, pretty much. I'll say "OK, TODAY, I'll just pop on real quick and see if anything major has happened." And 7 hours later, I'll wonder why it's so dark outside, and look at the clock, and sigh...

9. Hiya Plaid
I've been here a short time but I can understand your frustration. Having had the chance to have some conversations with longtime DUers, I realize the cultural shift has been difficult on you guys and gals. Here's one for your list, though: You find yourself arguing to convince people you are actually agreeing with them!

I hope to see you around the playground :hi:

17. it's like a casino of political conversation here
You can wander in, any time day or night, and walk up and get into any kind of game you wish. We've got a wide variety of topics and authors, and you can choose to get involved in any of them you wish.

No one is changing anyone's mind about anything here. That is an unrealistic expectation. This is not about convincing, it is about arguing with opponents and agreeing with fellow supporters. It's two groups of people, lined up on either side of a street, yelling back and forth at each other.

Mostly saying hooray for our side.

18. Can I have your 3 limited threads a day in GD:P since you're not going to use them?
Edited on Wed May-14-08 01:08 AM by Major Hogwash
I don't use any of mine, but I collect things like that. It's not like you're going to miss them if you don't want them, anyway, ya know. And maybe someday I'll want to start more than 3 threads, but after I have already started 2 threads, I'll hesitate because I'll be thinking "but I only have 1 left now, maybe I had better save it in case something really, really important happens at 11:35 PM".

See, this way, if you give me your 3 daily threads, then I could think to myself, "oh, the hell with it, I've got 3 more threads to burn anyway, and I could go ahead and make that 3rd daily thread accusing someone of something really, really bad or something like that". Or, maybe I'll just save using more than 3 a day for later, ya know, as a sort of surprise attack, like when it becomes really necessary to dominate the board with 6 whole threads, ones made just by me, ya know. That would show them, huh?

But, then again, maybe I'd just blow them all making fun of Montana for being the last state to get to vote this primary season. Being from Idaho, I would love that. I'm sure that Montana's voting booths will close later than the Eastern half of the state of South Dakota's voting booths will close, so it would be a great way to make more friends from Montana who post at DU. Because then they would have to defend themselves from my snarky attack threads, but - and this is the best part - they would only have 3 daily threads that would limit their defense capabilities!!

While I could afford to "swap" threads with one of them, ya know; he'd make 1, then I'd make 1, and then after that Montana guy is all out of threads, viola, I whip out another thread, my 4th daily thread(!), in essence showing him that being last in a primary isn't really all that great is it big guy from Montana, I've got 4 daily threads. That would show them who is really the big Kahuna around here.
Great plan, huh?

So, whattya say? Have we got a deal? Can I have your 3 daily threads?
Can I, can I, huh?

29. I completely agree. but the one thing that keeps me here is that when Obama is elected-
There will be that fleeting moment when certain Hillary trolls (Ben Da-llurian come to mind) will have to admit, even if they do not do so on the board, that they have lost.

Petty, but I want to be here when that happens.

Then they will continue their bullshit anyway, but GD:P will be gone! HE HE!
