24. I had a 1971 squareback

Took a trip with brother and sis in law. We were all skinny back then. But going up a hill in Pennsylvania, we thought we wouldn't make it up to the crest. It was so funny since we were all leaning forward and rooting the engine on. Thankfully, no one had to get out and walk to the top.

I loved that car. I use to get almost 40 mpg on the open road. The only bad thing was that the tires were so bad on the NYC streets. I got so many flats and had to have the tire replaced completely. Otherwise, it was peaches!

29. I had a 1965 Beetle AND 1971 squareback, too!

Both died Viking deaths. I got hit in the Beetle, and hit somebody else with the squareback.

Loved those cars. Crap heaters, but could fix any problems with a rubber band and paper clip.

When I got the Beetle, gas was 19 cents a gallon. Could drive all week on two bucks.
