As per exit polls. HRC's 19% of the AA vote in SC compares with her 27% overall. IMO, the increasingly 'negative' tone of her campaign, has contributed to the collapse in AA support.

1. Good point. I see posts saying that 90% of blacks vote for Obama becuz he's black
but what really caused her to collapse is the tone of the campaign among African-American voters. I

2. And that applies to South Carolina too.
Obama surged among black voters after Iowa when they could see he was for real, but in SC the bottom didn't fall out of Clinton's support until they started spinning that SC was a "black candidate" state.

5. SC - she got 27% of the total vote, 19% of the AA vote)
After SC the HRC's campaign began to frame Obama as the blackcandidate.

7. Exactly.
Until Iowa, Hillary was actually winning the Black vote. The Hillary folks always seem to conveniently forget this. In fact, some pundits were wondering aloud how Obama could survive if he couldn't even get 50% of the Black vote. Blacks were getting e-mails that basically said "don't be afraid to vote for Obama. He could actually win this thing." I've gotten those myself, but I was already on-board by then.

The Hillary campaign did this to itself. And yes, she can still count on the Black vote in the general election should she pull the nomination out of her ass. The problem is she can also count on the Black vote being much, much smaller if that happened. Which would you rather have: 90% of a quarter of the overall electorate or 90% of a twentieth of said electorate?

4. Yes, but that isn't the only factor
The longer Obama stayed viable to actually win this thing, the easier it became for some black voters to dare to believe that America can elect a Black President, making it easier for them to vote their heart rather than go with a less optimistic pragmatic decision to keep the Republicans from holding onto the Presidency.

6. TN was after SC
There are other factors as well. She got 31% of the AA vote in NY.

9. I'm STILL Trying To Figure Out NY...
...and this is my home state.

Yeah, Hillary is a sitting U.S. Senator representing NY, so there's a "vote for your own" factor in play. But she carried EVERY COUNTY in the state. There were entire precincts in Harlem in which Obama DIDN'T SCORE A SINGLE VOTE. I expectd him to steal counties like Bronx and Kings strictly because of the Black vote. Didn't happen. In my own county of Monroe (Rochester), it seemed EVERYONE had caught "Obamamania," but then Hillary carried the day something like 60-40. It just didn't add up.

Ah well ... he should carry NY in the general with no problem...

8. She gave up hope of courting black voters to pander to white racists
We should be so proud of Hillary for her brilliant campaign.
