Well, not really. It is interesting how much WV has changed... from one of the few states that Dukakis won to a pretty red state (in presidential races).

Here is the partisan voting index (WV popular vote compared to the national popular vote)
WV '88: 12.46% Democratic
WV '92: 7.46% Democratic
WV '96: 6.21% Democratic
WV '00: 6.84% Republican
WV '04: 10.40% Republican

2. So we're comparing using a election year fresh off the popularity wagon of Reagan
Bush Sr. versus Dukakis? We're comparing that to McSame versus Obama? Are you serious?

8. No but apparently you can't make a decent comparison and react with insults when questioned about it

9. You seem pretty confused
I wasn't comparing anything. Let me help you. If I make a post about Mondale's 1984 trouncing in the electoral college and talk about the PVIs of MN, the only state he won... that doesn't mean I am comparing it to anything. It means I am talking about it.

WV is a unique state. Very Dem to very Repub in a short time. That's all I am talking about. If you think I am comparing it to verses in the Bible or the price of bread, you are mistaken.

3. Dukakis actually began the what is now the Democratic electoral coalition
Dukakis was actually the first Democrat to win Iowa, Oregon and Washington in several election cycles. For instance the last time Iowa and Oregon had gone Democratic before Dukakis was in '64 with the Johnson landslide. The last time Washington had gone Dem was in '68 narrowly for Hubert Humphrey. Also, Duke almost won California in '88 coming closer than any Democrat in doing so since Johnson in '64. Wisconsin went Democratic in '88 for the first time since '76 and before that '64. So states which we now take for granted as being blue actually began turning with Dukakis in '88.
