Why were the Florida and Michigan primary dates moved ahead of schedule??
I'm not sure what happened in Michigan, but I know that republicans in the Florida state senate voted to move the democratic primary in their state ahead of schedule. this action was against the wishes of the democratic representatives in the state, who had too few votes to put a stop to this move because they are the minority party there. but what is the explanation for it? and why is it even legal for repukes to screw with the other party's primary process in such a manner, against the rules and wishes of the other party??

1. DLC'ers in both state parties wanted to help bring Hillary an early coronation
Never mind all the spin otherwise, that is the real reason behind it. Ironically enough, if they had held the primaries at the proper time, Hillary might be closer to Obama in delegates now.

11. That is what I figured

the fact that Repukes were responsible for it is a big clue. proves they are desperate for Hillary to be the Dem nominee. moving the date ahead of schedule is inherently unfair for the unknown candidates or newcomers as it gives them no time to campaign in the state.

2. Only one Dem voted against it in Florida.
Carry on.

13. Rachel Maddow

yesterday on her show she said Dems had too few votes in Florida to do anything about it,
since Repugs outnumber them by a wide margin.

5. That was the problem
There was no indication that they actually put up a fight. The Repubs did attach this vote with vote ragarding voting machines. People have said they still could have voted against these bills because they were in the minority and the voting legislation might have still passed.

6. Wasn't it tied to other
important election reform measures?

10. I'm sure it was.
Make no mistake, the Pugs don't get a pass on their obvious manipulation.

7. To be honest...
... in Florida the repugs tied it to a voter reform bill that meant a paper trail. Florida Dems thought that was important and voted for the bill.

The primary date was a sad aspect to the bill.

9. Yep, they could ahve stopped it if they had wanted to
Had they even put up a fight and every Dem voted against it, the worst that would ahve happened to florida would have been to lose half their delegates.

14. Are the Dems in Florida DLC types?
they seem to be almost as bad as the Repugs.

8. The FDP has complete authority to write their delegate selection plan
Knowing that the state run primary was against the rules of the DNC, the FDP should not have constructed a delegate selection plan based on a primary that "was against the wishes of the democratic representatives in the state" to quote the OP. They had many options. They could have opted to make the primary non-binding and run a caucus, or even have a party run primary sometime on or after February 5th. The national Democratic party would have been happy to help pay for such a primary.
