Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer for VP---worth thinking about?
Edited on Mon May-12-08 05:58 PM by tokenlib
Administrative experience as a governor. Very capable business mind with successful international experience--Africa, Europe, Saudi Arabia.... I think I heard he speaks Arabic...Straddles the divide between business interests and environmentalists...Rancher and outdoorsman. Pro-gun but also very pro rights and liberties. Roman Catholic. Works with republicans. Interesting insights on energy, has been an advocate of coal liquification...

Overall, Clark or Richardson seem to have the most to offer--but now I'm wondering about Schweitzer.
The more I hear, the more I'm warming up to the idea. Would appeal to the West, would help squelch the elitism nonsense...

I read that he stood up to DHS on Real ID... we need more leaders who are willing to go to the mat on this crap.

Thanks for this thread! :)

2. I think he would be a great choice.
I would like to see them try to call him an elitist. Ha.

4. Obama-Schweitzer
Has a wierd ring to it.

I don't know the guy, but, it would be an unusually exotc sounding ticket!

7. Strangely, a lot of Obama tickets have a weird ring.
My personal choice would be Tim Kaine, governor of VA, and someone brought up the ticket name "Obama-Kaine". It sounds like a medication.

5. My first choice would be Bill Richardson
For Hispanic voters, West and for his good sense to come out for Obama when he did.

But I sure wouldn't mind Schweitzer. I love the guy. His state doesn't bring many electoral votes, but I think he'd help carry some Western states.

And we'd have a real cowboy who knows how to ride a horse!

9. Strickland is a smarter choice
Appealls to the blue collars...and is very popular in swing state.

10. I would LOVE that ticket. Schweitzer has the new vision that Dems should start listening too.
I'd like to see him get the experience so that he could run for President himself after Obama.

12. Actually, that's a damned good idea.
Although, Scott Kleeb would be a good choice just for the eye candy factor.

13. I really like him, and he'll be considered. But Webb, Clark, and Strickland make more sense.
Strickland is a good choice because he is good with working class whites and helps carry OH which is a must this time for Dems. He's also a Hillary supporter which helps with unity and has Gov. experience. Clark = Hillary supporter, outsider, and of course the whole military background. Helps with white men especially. Webb = military/foreign policy help, helo with whites, and help with VA which moving further a further blue. Tim Kaine, Evan Bayh, Richardson, and Edwards, are all good choices as well. I don't think it will be Hillary. Women and white blue collarites are where she helps, but women will go mostly Dem anyway, Bill is a difficult sticking point, and the electorate may not be ready for both a white woman and black man on one ticket, sad as that may be, but reality is reality. Plus, she fires up the GOP base BIGTIME. I think it comes down to Webb or Strickland. I really like Webb, but Strickland is also very good and help so much with critical state of OH.

14. He's brilliant and personable and definitely should run for national office.
Big fan, here.

But, don't we need someone who can appeal to the South?
