Obama breaking pledges to not campaign in MI and FL?
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Barack Obama's surging presidential campaign announced Monday that he will visit politically neglected Florida and Michigan, as he focuses on a general election strategy with his primary race winding down.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1131ap_democrats.html
It will be Obama's first time in either state since signing a pledge nine months ago not to campaign in the two states that violated national party rules with early primaries. Obama will have to build relationships in the two critical general election battlegrounds if he wins the Democratic nomination. ...

All the Democratic presidential candidates agreed on boycotting Michigan and Florida. Clinton won both states, but no delegates were awarded. Restoring the delegates is a major part of Clinton's longshot strategy for the nomination.

As she campaigned in West Virginia on Mother's Day, Clinton rejected any suggestion that she's dropping out of the race. She used campaign stops to remind voters of women who didn't give up in difficult situations, who fought for equal rights, broke into male-dominated professions and succeeded when others told them to quit.

She quoted Eleanor Roosevelt, telling supporters: "A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she is in hot water."...

"Why can't Senator Obama beat Senator Clinton in West Virginia? Voters there have heard that he's the presumptive nominee," Clinton campaign strategist Howard Wolfson said on "Fox News Sunday." "They've seen the great press he's gotten in the past couple of days. Let's let them decide. They have an opportunity. They want to end this on Tuesday, they're perfectly capable of it."

...it means you'll never have to concede.

Once he reaches 2025... you'll say it is 2209.... once he reaches 2209... you'll say that nothing is final until they vote at the convention, since they can change their minds.

Sorry.... it's over. And deep down, you know it.

87. He has a lot of work to do here in Michigan.
At this point he is not thought too highly of with the exception of the Detroit, Saginaw and possibly Ann Arbor areas. McCain is the one getting all the good press every time he comes. Many Michiganders preferred Senator Clinton and she soundly won the primary election. I don't know where her voters will go if Obama is the nominee. He will have to work pretty hard to win them over.

......but in the big picture - WV is not important. Yea sounds bad, but so it is. WV will not vote Dem in the fall. No way, no how.
And why shouldn't Obama go to MI and FL? He is starting his General Campaign - completely bypassing Hillary - FL and MI matter in the fall..... and, really, let Hill have her win in WV and KY - it matters not.

It still MIGHT if Obama puts her on the ticket. But for Obama alone? Unless he picks Robert Byrd or Jay Rockefeller as his running mate, then there's no path to a WV electoral victory for him.

If Gore would have won it he wouldn't have needed Florida.

However no matter who the nominee is on the democratic side the coal industry will come out against due to our enviromental stances we shouldn't abandon and people will vote for their profession.

As long as they are mining coal in WV they will be solidly GOP in Presidential Elections.

They can vote for democratic senators because they own them. They're 5 electoral votes won't scare any President and they aren't dumb enough to believe it would.

The fucking vultures that want to get some stupid political advantage with imbeciles by spewing such vomit are really detestable.

Obama is thinking ahead and campaigning for the General Election, where MI and FL are going to vote for the POTUS no matter what happened in the Democratic primary.

Thanks for highlighting the delusional goalpost-dragging by Howard Wolfson, making his case on FOX NEWS, of course!

No Howard...WV has ALWAYS been in the bag for HRC big-time. Don't even TRY to act as if you guys would really quit if HRC lost WV.

North Carolina effectively "ended it" for you guys. WV can't do much numerically either way. But Oregon will drive another nail into the coffin even if you guys decide to ignore it.

26. It's ok to campaign in MI and FL now. Primaries are over.
Clinton has campaigned in both Michigan and Florida since the primaries (she gave an election night rally in Florida after the polls closed, and went to Michigan to try to rally support for a revote).

The boycott was only in place before the primaries took place.

this forum has been called GD Politics since oh early on. It might morph to primaries (as far as I remember only this year), but it is Politics

If you do not remember or know that... it ain't my fault

Anyhow... how's your math? Because the primary, by any OBJECTIVE metric is over.

You are now free to line up behind the nominee

Vote for McCain

Stay home

Not vote

Or vote third party

Those are your choices...

Oh and the nominee is NOT Clinton. Deal with it.

Oops after checking your profile, you are new... I see

54. In Oregon et al..he's campaigning against Hillary. In MI/FL
he's campaigning against McCain. This primary race is over. She just won't accept the memos being delivered daily telling her so.

58. He's not even paying any attention to Hillary anymore. Why should he? The primary is over.
He's already campaigning for the general, sparring with McCain, Lieberman and Mittens, and has this democratic nomination in the bag. The rest is formality.

150 delegates to 2025!!!

74. Pledge was only to not campaign prior to the rogue primaries in those states....
Afterwards was NOT part of the deal.

...nice try, though.

Wolfson isn't arguing that the pledge precludes campaigning in FL and MI at this point.

84. That only applies to primary campaigning, surely
If he doesn't campaign for the GE until Hillary (finally) steps down, then we're going to be giving McCain a big head start.

As for Hillary's plan to get the delegates reinstated; Florida is a possibility but Michigan isn't since Obama wasn't on the ballot there and she's ruled out teh only fair solution, a re-vote.

Did Eleanor Roosevelt really say that? I always thought that was an urban myth.

since the primary has already happened in MI and FL ..

I wouldn't expect hillary hacks to figure this out.

95. This post is misleading and divisive
Obama, like Clinton, pledged not to run in FL or MI in the Democratic PRIMARY. If you remember, Hillary was the one who broke that pledge and visited FL. She's the one who owes an answer on this, if you wanna get all nitpicky about it. Please remove the beams from your own eyes before pointing out specks in anybody else's.

Also, your signature line is offensive and designed to anger Obama supporters. How would you feel if an Obama supporter put Clinton's "hardworking white Americans" remark in their sig line? You still have the right to promote your candidate. But once you begin trying to destroy what is now our best chance for the GE, you are crossing an intolerable line. Either run a classy campaign or don't campaign at all.
