USA Today Joins Forces With CNN To Destroy The Nascent Kerry Campaign....
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 10:05 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
First I had to deal with CNN flogging the pro Bush Gall(o)p Poll which was out of step with the Zogby, CBS, ABC Washington Post, Newsweek, and ARG polls.... Now I have to deal with USA Today flogging the same flawed poll. After all it is the CNN -USA Today Gallup Poll.

Susan Page used the flawed poll to argue Bush got the bounce not Kerry in a front page hit piece....

And if USA Today is to newspapers what McDonalds is to fine cuisine then Susan Page is to journalists what Mike Tyson is to boxing... A particularly unattractive, over the hill, washed up journalist....

14. Since the convention, I have boycotted CNN
Sometimes TV coverage of politics is not very good, or not favorable to our candidate.

But this is something completely different. This is a DELIBERATE attempt to CHANGE the news, by CNN & USA Today. And these efforts are led by Page, Woodruff, Blitzer, Schneider, etc.

This distortion is blatant & must come from corporate powers-that-be.
They are all on the same page, singing the same song...it is so obvious, it has to be arranged.

However, an exception: Newsnight with Aaron Brown is an hour of fresh air, probing questions, thoughtful insight, & not 1 screaming talking head. Only problem is, he vacations quite frequently, & his substitute goes by the CNN playbook.

2. I saw her do a panel Q & A with a group of young adults on C-Span during
the Dem Convention last week and she was right in there with the local FOX affiliate rep, whoring it up for the Reich-wing.

3. Big Media is Just Getting Warmed Up
They'll all be stumping for Bush* every day from now on.

Every media conglomerate in the country is in Bush*'s pocket.
Every TV network, and every newspaper chain in the US have put
aside whatever journalistic intergrity they may have once had
and are going all-out to reselect the usurper.

Kerry will get little or no favorable coverage at all.
They are under no legal obligation to be fair. They don't even
have to run his advertisements.

It will take the most intensive grass-roots campaign that has ever
been mounted anywhere to overcome this.

7. USA Today is owned by Gannett. 'Nuff said.
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 11:44 AM by Rob H.
I used to work for a Gannett paper, The Idaho Statesman, in Boise, Idaho, and even for a Red State paper, they're right-wing. They spun the result of the Florida recount which showed that under two of the four recount standards that USA Today and the Miami Herald used, Gore would have won Florida and the presidency. They pooh-poohed Bush's drunk driving arrest, as did the rest of the media, as a "youthful indescretion" while simultaneously calling Gore a liar for saying things which were later proven to be true. Instead of showing the damage to NYC or the Pentagon in the wake of 9/11, which would've been understandable, that Friday they had Saint Shrubya's face taking up a big portion of page one. (That he looked as if he were about to cry didn't help matters.) These are just the examples I can think of off the top of my head; I'm sure there are many others that I've forgotten.

Obviously I can't speak to the behavior of other Gannett papers since I only worked at the one in Idaho--and it was such a negative experience that I'm never working for a newspaper again, regardless of its ownership--but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that all of their papers lean right.

FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, but you already knew that) has this page dedicated to Gannett and USA Today, for those who'd like a bit more information.

9. Why it won't work.
Telling people that Bush is ahead is like telling them the economy is in good shape.

"Who are you gonna believe, me, or your lying eyes?"

10. Kerry's campaign is not nascent
That's misinformation. He's been running since 2002.

As far as the media bashing Kerry, what did ya expect? They did it to Gore and Clinton, they were going to do it to the 2004 Dem nominee, no matter who won the slot.

Instead of being surprised, Kerry supporters should have prepared for this and been quick to respond. As a by-stander in this year's Prez election, I'm amused at how Kerry supporters are unprepared for this GOP onslaught. It was predicted here on DU since the 2000 campaign ended. You should have been prepared.

15. I watched an FCC hearing on C-Span
dealing with cable prices & choices. The cable people were spinning happy talk, but a citizen watch group testified against them.

5 major companies own almost every cable channel we watch. They force the cable companies to carry their entire line-up, if they want the major show of the group.

They discussed cable choices for consumers...these big 5 corporations block the ability of the companies to offer an a la carte menu of choices. They use technology & price as an excuse, but it is a sham.
Thus, we are forced to purchase dozens of channels we do not want because of the monopoly.

Consumers only power is their money...if we cannot choose our channels, the corporations will continue to force feed us propaganda.

One more thing, many of the larger cable companies, like Time-Warner are all part of the sham.

They flogged that poll for all it's worth...

It goes deeper than proprietary pride. They want to portray Kerry as a loser so his contributors won't contribute and his supporters won't turn out to vote...

All glitz. No substance.

And Susan Paige is an idiot...about as relevent as Cokie, the crackwhore Roberts.

As for these people downplaying Kerry and the convention "bounce", I think Kerry has the right idea in not even paying attention to them. By this time he's definetely used to having people call his campaign a failure, then he comes in at the end to win it. He did it with Weld in '96 and the primaries as well.

23. I see Paige often on C-Span
She's about what you would expect -- useless, uninformed, a well-fed media "success" who is just interested in holding on to her coveted position by toadying up to those in power.
That's probably human nature -- not excusable, by the way -- but the really annoying thing about her is that she is so freakin' clueless. Caller after caller on C-Span would ask her about an article they read or a news report they heard, and she would have no response, other than, "I didn't hear that" or "I must have missed that one."
I tried to get through and say something along the lines of, "Are you lying about how little you know, or merely incompetent?"
Again, I'm convinced public humiliation is the only way to go with these whores. If they have to be shamed into doing their jobs, let's do it -- every chance we get.
